Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Receptionist to serve as the first point of contact for our healthcare facility. The ideal candidate will possess strong administrative skills, excellent communication abilities, and a comprehensive understanding of medical office procedures. This role involves managing patient interactions, coordinating appointments, handling medical records, and supporting clinical staff to ensure smooth daily operations. The Medical Receptionist plays a vital role in delivering exceptional patient service while maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations such as HIPAA.
Duties
- Greet patients warmly and professionally, ensuring a welcoming environment at the front desk.
- Schedule appointments efficiently using electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Meditech, or Athenahealth.
- Verify insurance coverage and perform insurance eligibility and benefits verification for Medicare and private insurers.
- Manage patient check-in and check-out processes, including updating personal information and collecting co-pays or payments.
- Maintain accurate medical records by reviewing documentation, ensuring proper filing, and updating electronic health records (EHR systems).
- Handle multi-line phone systems with professionalism, providing clear communication and appointment reminders.
- Assist with medical billing and collection processes, including coding using CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10 codes, and processing medical claims.
- Support clinical staff with administrative tasks such as preparing care plans, reviewing documentation, and managing medical office supplies.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations by safeguarding patient information during all interactions.
- Perform general clerical duties such as filing, data entry using 10-key typing skills, and maintaining organized office files.
Experience
- Prior experience working in a medical or dental office setting is required; clinic or hospital experience is preferred.
- Proficiency with EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Athena is essential.
- Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology, ICD-10 coding standards, and CPT coding for procedures is a plus.
- Strong computer skills.
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively in bilingual environments are highly valued.
- Experience managing insurance verification processes and familiarity with Medicare billing procedures is advantageous.
