Medical Receptionist

Reports To: Front Desk Team Lead; Practice Administrator

Position Summary

Promotes a professional practice image by the efficient performance of a variety of business and clerical related tasks designated to facilitate the smooth flow of patients and work throughout the organization. Receives and registers patients and all visitors in a prompt and courteous manner, manages the telephone, schedules appointments, verifies insurance coverage, collects and processes payment, and enters into the EHR all incoming faxes and scans.

Job Responsibilities

· Cheerfully greets and registers incoming patients and visitors in a prompt and pleasant manner, determines their needs and responds accordingly.

· Presents, retrieves, reviews for correctness and processes patient registration forms.

· Collects, copies, and updates personal and financial information (insurance cards, driver’s license, etc.) obtained from patients.

· Verifies insurance eligibility.

· Collects co-pays and patient balance.

· Answers telephone, screens and directs incoming calls and messages.

· Schedules patient appointments and coordinating provider schedules.

· Follow confidentiality and security rules when providing information to outside sources adhering to HIPPA regulations

· Performs other tasks as requested

Qualifications

Experience and Education: A minimum of one year’s experience in a medical office, or healthcare setting preferable. High school graduate or equivalent

Knowledge Of: Modern operational methods germane to medical practice; clerical equipment, operations and processes; the mechanics of HMOs, IPAs and PPOs; various medical forms, reports and processing methods; possess a fundamental knowledge of basic billing procedures; individuals working in the front office must have a clear understanding of the confidentiality laws that govern the patient/provider relationship.

Ability To: Make a great first impression and sustain it; answer multiline telephones; operate or learn to operate automated systems, personal computers and fax machines; employ tact, diplomacy and compassion with all types of people; communicate well irrespective of the medium; exhibit strong interpersonal skills; maintain cooperative relationships with staff members, patients and providers; communicate clearly and concisely; process a variety of medical reports and correspondence; follow set routines and be alert to variations and make decisions accordingly; persons working in this position must maintain organized and accurate records; exercise team coordination skills; serve as patient advocate; understand and enforce the financial policy of the practice and recognize and correct costly data capture errors.

Pay: From $16.50 per hour
