Medical Receptionist

Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and compassionate Medical Receptionist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing front desk operations, ensuring a smooth patient experience, and providing essential administrative support in a medical office setting. This role requires strong communication skills, familiarity with medical terminology, and proficiency in various electronic health record (EHR) systems.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and visitors in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Manage patient scheduling, including appointments, follow-ups, and cancellations.
  • Handle incoming calls on a multi-line phone system, addressing inquiries and directing calls appropriately.
  • Collect and verify patient information, including insurance details and medical history.
  • Process medical collections and assist with billing inquiries.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Review care plans and ensure proper coding using ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding, and other relevant coding systems.
  • Assist with insurance verification and pre-authorizations as needed.
  • Provide clerical support including filing, typing, and data entry using Microsoft Office applications.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to facilitate patient care and administrative tasks.

Requirements

  • Previous experience as a Medical Receptionist or in a similar medical administrative role is preferred.
  • Familiarity with EHR systems eClinicalWorks is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, coding (ICD-9/ICD-10), billing processes, and insurance verification is essential.
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with patients and staff.
  • Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply to enhance patient communication.
  • Experience in clinic or hospital settings is a plus; dental office experience is also valued for specific roles.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
