Medical Receptionist | Full-Time | Yarmouth, ME

SUMMARY: This role will serve as the first point of contact for patients, providing exceptional customer service while managing front desk operations. Responsible for patient check in and check out, scheduling necessary follow up and ancillary appointments, payment collection, and maintaining accurate patient records.


CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Greet and check in patients using warm, professional, respectful communication
  • Collect and update patient demographic information, including insurance and pharmacy details
  • Verify insurance eligibility and determine applicable co-pays
  • Collect co-pays and outstanding balances
  • Assist patients with completing required forms using electronic devices
  • Scan, print, and attach documents to patient records
  • Notify clinical staff of patient arrivals through the EMR system
  • Communicate delays and assist patients with rescheduling, when necessary
  • Answer incoming phone calls using proper etiquette and prioritize telephone encounters appropriately
  • Schedule follow up and ancillary appointments using the electronic scheduling system (EMR)
  • Monitor automated appointment confirmations and update appointments accordingly
  • Balance daily payment transactions
  • Assist the billing office to resolve payment related issues
  • Maintains strict confidentiality in alignment with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability) guidelines and InterMed policies
  • Perform other duties to support the mission, vision and values of InterMed

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Ability and willingness to provide excellent customer service to patients, InterMed colleagues and vendor
  • Ability to work independently and accurately
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work well in busy environment
  • Proficient with Windows based computer applications
  • Flexibility and willingness to work as a team member
  • Accurate typing, transcribing, and data entry skills
