Orthopaedic Surgery Medical Scribe
JOB SUMMARY:
Provide detailed written documentation of orthopaedic hand and upper extremity outpatient visits in coordination with the treating surgeon. Assist with further tasks as delineated by the supervising surgeon and medical assistant to increase clinic flow and efficiency.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepares and assembles medical record documentation/charts for physician(s).
- Enters the patient room with the physician during patient visit to capture and transcribe medical record documentation utilizing an electronic medical record system.
- Ensures medical record compliance by self-documentation attestation.
- Updates patient history, physical exam, and other pertinent health information
- Prepares and sends all documentation to physician for review and approval via authentication of detailed data entry and facility-specific procedures
- Complies with medical facility policies, including those relating to HIPAA
- Performs other clerical duties and tasks to improve provider productivity and clinic workflow as assigned.
- Assist the practice with routine patient care tasks as designated by physician and medical assistant; this may include greeting patients, dressing changes, scheduling follow-up appointments, referrals, and more.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- High school education or GED equivalency;
- Experience in a medical office or science degree preferred
- Computer skills and incorporation of technology, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe, electronic medical records use and application, online form generation
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Customer service and conscientious work habits
- HIPAA guidelines
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology, diagnostic coding
- Medical Coding - Knowledge of Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) and ICD-10 diagnostic coding.
- Active communication skills, including written and spoken
- Critical thinking
- The ability to recognize problems, identify solutions or route to coworkers for solution
- Multi-tasking, conscientious and attention to detail
- Spanish language skills preferred, but not required
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Strength (Lift/Carry/Push/Pull): Sedentary (exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally)
- Standing/Walking: Occasionally; activity exists up to 1/3 of the time
- Keyboarding/Dexterity: Frequently; activity exists from ¾ of the time
- Ability to look at a computer screen for extended periods.
- Ability to perform constant repetitive hands and finger motions.
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in written form

COMPENSATION DETAILS
- From $15.00
- Part time, 2.5 to 3 days weekly, 8:00 to 5:00
