Work Location: Nuvia Medical Clinics (Various Locations)

Position Summary

The Medical Scribe supports Nuvia Medical providers by documenting patient encounters in the electronic medical record (EMR) in real time during clinical visits. Working closely with physicians and nurse practitioners, the Medical Scribe captures accurate and detailed clinical information, allowing providers to focus on patient care while ensuring medical documentation is timely, complete, and compliant.

This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent listening skills, and the ability to quickly and accurately translate provider-patient interactions into structured medical documentation. The Medical Scribe must maintain strict confidentiality of patient information and comply with all HIPAA, privacy, and documentation standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Accompany physicians and nurse practitioners during patient visits to document encounters in the electronic medical record.
  • Accurately record patient histories, physical examination findings, assessments, treatment plans, and follow-up instructions as communicated by the provider.
  • Enter documentation in real time during patient visits to ensure efficiency and accuracy.
  • Prepare patient charts prior to scheduled visits by reviewing existing records and ensuring required documentation is available.
  • Assist providers by organizing information within the electronic medical record system, including updating patient chart sand entering orders as directed for provider review and signature.
  • Review documentation with providers to ensure accuracy prior to finalization.
  • Maintain familiarity with clinic workflows, medical terminology, and specialty-specific documentation requirements.
  • Ensure all documentation meets organizational policies, compliance standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Protect patient privacy and maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Support clinic efficiency by assisting with documentation completion after patient visits when necessary.
  • Collaborate with medical assistants, front desk staff, and other clinical team members to support efficient patient flow.
  • Perform other documentation or administrative duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working in a healthcare or clinical setting required.
  • Prior experience as a medical scribe, medical assistant, or clinical documentation specialist strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology required.
  • Previous experience with eClinicalWorks (ECW) electronic medical record system highly preferred.
  • Strong typing skills with the ability to document patient encounters in real time; minimum typing speed of 60 words per minute preferred.
  • Experience working with electronic medical record (EMR/EHR) systems strongly preferred.
  • Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Excellent listening, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods during clinic sessions.
  • Ability to use computers and electronic medical record systems for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to move throughout the clinic to support providers and patient flow as needed.
