Medical Scribe and Medical Assistant

Position Summary:

Desert Orthopaedic Center is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Orthopaedic Medical Scribe to support our physicians and enhance patient care. The scribe will work directly with an orthopaedic physician to document patient encounters in real time, ensuring accurate and efficient medical records. This role is ideal for individuals pursuing a career in healthcare or looking to gain hands-on clinical experience.

Key Responsibilities:

• Accompany physician during patient visits and document medical histories, physical exams, procedures, and treatment plans in the electronic medical record (EMR)
• Accurately enter diagnoses, orders, and follow-up instructions as directed by the physician
• Maintain real-time, precise, and thorough documentation of patient encounters
• Assist with chart completion, including reviewing labs, imaging, and reports
• Assist with clinical tasks, including triage, set up in office procedures, DME dispensing and fitting
• Ensure all documentation complies with HIPAA and regulatory standards
• Support physician with workflow efficiency and patient throughput
• Communicate effectively with physician, clinical staff, and administrative team members

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required; current enrollment in a healthcare-related program preferred
• Previous scribe or medical documentation experience preferred, but not required
• Strong understanding of medical terminology (orthopaedic knowledge is a plus)
• Excellent typing and computer skills (60+ WPM preferred)
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Professional demeanor and commitment to patient confidentiality

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with EMR systems
• Interest in orthopaedics, sports medicine, or surgery
• Ability to anticipate provider needs and adapt quickly

Work Environment:

• Fast-paced clinical setting with direct patient interaction
• Frequent movement between exam rooms
