Job Description
FLSA Status: Hourly/Non-Exempt
Job Purpose
The role of the Medical Scribe in the department of Orthopaedics and Physical Medicine is to actively facilitate health care delivery in a clinical setting under the direction of a licensed healthcare provider. The Scribe is responsible for assisting the provider in patient care as well as provide administrative scribing services to ensure the highest quality patient care and experience within the clinical scope of a MSA.
MUSC Minimum Education and Work Experience: High school diploma or equivalent.: At least 6 months Certified Medical Assistant or Certified Medical Scribe preferred.
Experience in a healthcare environment. Excellent computer and typing skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Working knowledge of an electronic medical record application. Adept knowledge of medical terminology; High attention to detail.
Degree of Supervision: Must be able to work under the direction of a physician.

Physical Requirements
Continuous requirements are to perform job functions while standing, walking, and sitting. Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, fully use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, reach in all directions. Maintain 20/40 vision corrected, see, and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance, work in a latex safe environment and work indoors. Frequently lift and/or carry objects weighing 20 lbs. (+/-) unassisted. Lift from 36” to overhead 15 lbs. Infrequently work in dusty areas and confined/cramped spaces.
