The Florida Department of Health in Seminole County is looking for a self-motivated, independent, and hardworking individual to fill a Career Service Medical Technologist II position located in Sanford, FL.
This is a highly independent and responsible administrative and clinical position under the supervision of the Operations and Management MGR SES as part of the Tuberculosis, Refugee Health, and Employee Health Programs. The position determines client eligibility, provides services, and coordinates needed program activities. It is a highly visible role with constant interaction with both external and internal clients and requires the ability to prioritize, be flexible, multitask, and provide impeccable customer service. The incumbent is expected to promote cooperation, courtesy, and teamwork in a diverse environment and provide support to the Epidemiology Program as needed.
Administrative Support: Front desk reception, checking in clients, providing necessary paperwork, and managing all client communication, including registering clients, verifying demographic and insurance information, determining eligibility as needed, and answering incoming calls while checking voicemail on all front desk phones and disseminating voicemail to appropriate staff within one business day of receipt. Schedules appointments, prints daily schedules, enters services and billing data, and supports the payment process by directing clients to staff responsible for fee collection. Additional responsibilities include completing I 693 forms, preparing end of day reports, preparing faxes, and assisting with documentation needs. Enters service information into electronic health record systems such as HMS, Florida SHOTS, and PRISM, including attaching documents, creating labels, adding required information, and preparing referral and laboratory forms. Operates office equipment and maintains logs, inventories, and related reports. Conducts monthly inventories for clinical supplies, office supplies, and vaccines, and manages active record inventory, including security, retention schedules, storage preparation, retrieval processing, and coordinating destruction with Archive Corporation. Orders office supplies through MFMP after supervisor approval, tracks and reconciles transactions in MFMP and SAMAS, and maintains documentation to ensure compliance with purchasing guidelines and reconciliation deadlines. Receives and reviews purchases, maintains documentation, refills areas with received supplies, and ensures the front desk area remains secured. Additional duties include updating the Secured Area Authorized Access Listing, ensuring certifications and licenses within the assigned area are current, ensuring staff from other areas sign the EPI/TB Visitors Log, checking emails routinely, making copies as needed, and maintaining organized program folders. Also monitors laboratory and contract billing, reconciles invoices, and tracks purchase order balances.
Clinical/Lab Support: Taking and recording vital signs, performing vision and hearing screenings, and interviewing clients to obtain medical history while providing counseling and education based on assessed needs and program requirements. Maintains daily logs for medications, immunizations, and all required clinical and laboratory activities. Performs basic laboratory procedures; collects specimens independently through phlebotomy or other approved methods; and ensures correct patient identification. Responsible for accurate, complete, and timely specimen collection, including wrapping, packaging, labeling, and shipping specimens with proper manifests, tracking, and documentation. Handles accurate and efficient laboratory order entry, specimen processing, and the initiation, analysis, completion, and logging of results within tracking systems. Participates in disease control clinics, contact investigations, and employee health testing; provides assistance with N 95 respirator fit testing; and performs routine phlebotomy. Additional responsibilities include preparing collection kits or other non lab kits, restocking clinical and laboratory supplies, checking medications upon receipt, providing them to nursing staff, notifying the state of receipt, and submitting expired medications as required. Maintains responsibility for reviewing and verifying laboratory equipment, ensuring annual inspection of equipment and the negative pressure room, analyzing equipment results, and notifying appropriate staff of discrepancies. Monitors supply levels and expiration dates to ensure readiness and compliance.
Other Duties: Participates in and represents the Florida Department of Health during community screening programs, outreach events, and education efforts for targeted populations. Provides cross training support and coverage for various DOH Seminole programs, clinics, and other outreach activities as needed. Supports quality assurance and quality/process improvement initiatives, submits Employee Activity Records in a timely manner, and completes all mandatory trainings.
The employee will perform other duties as required including but not limited to, working beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency, natural disaster, outbreak response, or terrorist event.
The employee will report to work in Sanford, FL to complete job duties. Remote work will not be considered.
