Job Description:

Responsible for facilitating the ongoing development, implementation, and continuous quality assurance of the formulary management system and supporting policies and tools designed to promote safe, efficacious, and efficient use of medications. This position participates in the development of company-wide guidelines and usage criteria to optimize medication utilization and prepares or oversees the preparation of evidence-based monographs and therapeutic class reviews. Additionally, this role analyzes pharmaceutical usage trends and collaborates with appropriate parties to develop initiatives focusing on cost reduction methods around targeted therapies. In addition, this position maintains strong relationships with pharmacy leaders to advance medication stewardship activities and best practices for the use of pharmaceuticals. Ensures the promotion of safe and effective medication use through strategic policy development and implementation.

  • Maintains broad knowledge of therapeutic areas, drug releases, and current scientific evidence.
  • Advises on new product launches, emerging trends, and best practice recommendations.
  • Analyzes pharmaceutical usage trends to develop initiatives focusing on cost reduction methods around targeted therapies.
  • Prepares and oversees the preparation of evidence-based monographs and therapeutic class reviews.
  • Collaborates with pharmacy leaders to advance medication stewardship activities and best practices for the use of pharmaceuticals.
  • Coordinates organizational strategies to optimize medication use, including usage criteria, formulary changes, and critical pathways.
  • Performs routine audits and reviews to evaluate formulary compliance.
  • Quantifies the impact of institutional decisions, guidelines, and initiatives. Supports activities of the enterprise Formulary and Therapeutics Committee. Establishes and maintains effective relationships with pharmacy, nursing, and informatics personnel at the system level and with leaders at the facility level. Participates in relevant organizational and departmental committees and work groups.
  • Engages in drug supply chain resiliency, helping to identify trends of concern and formulate mitigation strategies for real and potential drug shortages.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing [Required]

  • Proficient use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel [Required]

  • A broad and thorough knowledge of pharmacy therapeutic areas [Required]

  • Proven ability to lead a project to successful completion [Required]

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data and inputs and turn that data into actionable activities/plans. [Required]

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead virtual workgroups [Required]

  • Working knowledge of contemporary hospital/clinical practice and service, general hospital operations and regulatory compliance [Preferred]

  • Working knowledge of economic drivers of healthcare and emerging trends related to medication use and the practice of pharmacy [Preferred]

  • Experience with Epic’s EHR and pharmacy application. [Preferred]

  • Demonstrated understanding of pharmacy operations and how medication utilization initiatives impact those operations [Preferred]

Education:

  • Completion of an accredited pgy-1 pharmacy residency program [Required]

  • Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited college of pharmacy [Required]

Work Experience:

  • Completion of an accredited PGY-2 Specialty pharmacy residency program [Preferred]

  • Experience as a contributor to a hospital Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee [Preferred]

  • Medication use policy and/or formulary management experience in a hospital setting [Preferred]

  • Working in a hospital pharmacy, with progressive leadership responsibilities [Required]

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Licensed Pharmacist (RPH) [Required]

  • Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) [Preferred]

Pay Range:

$105,006.04 - $195,321.62
