Utility District Credit Union (UDCU) is a member‑owned, nonprofit financial institution serving current employees, retirees, and family members of East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD). Founded in 1935 during the Great Depression, our mission has remained constant: to provide affordable credit and exceptional service to the EBMUD community. Position Overview

The Member Service Specialist plays a key role in delivering exceptional service to our members. This position performs a blend of teller operations, new accounts, lending support, and administrative duties. As the face of UDCU, you will assist members with transactions, answer questions, process loans, and ensure accuracy and confidentiality in all interactions. This role reports directly to the CEO.

Key ResponsibilitiesMember Services

  • Provide exceptional service to members, employees, retirees, and the Board of Directors
  • Open new accounts, additional sub‑shares, and issue debit cards
  • Respond to member questions, problems, and complaints with accurate information
  • Utilize needs‑based sales techniques to deepen member relationships
  • Prepare letters, memos, and maintain member files

Teller & Branch Operations

  • Perform deposits, withdrawals, transfers, payments, and general ledger entries
  • Maintain and reconcile a cash drawer daily
  • Issue cashier’s checks and process wire transfers
  • Answer phones and complete member requests efficiently
  • Perform branch opening and closing procedures
  • Identify and report suspicious or fraudulent activity

Lending

  • Assist with consumer loan applications
  • Explain loan terms, interest rates, and repayment schedules
  • Recommend additional products or services to meet member needs
  • Build and maintain relationships with borrowers and referral sources

Compliance, Accuracy & Risk Management

  • Safeguard member information and follow all confidentiality policies
  • Conduct audits of credit union documents and files
  • Perform file maintenance on all account types
  • Ensure compliance with lending and operational regulations
  • Identify errors and make corrections promptly

Additional Duties

  • Participate in Credit Union committees as assigned
  • May be designated as a Membership Officer

Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of experience in financial services (teller or banker experience required)
  • Knowledge of financial institution products, services, and loan programs
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent PC skills, including Excel and Word
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and time‑management skills
  • Ability to cross‑sell products using a needs‑based approach
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and perform duties requiring standing, sitting, and occasional bending
