Healthcare Staffing Professionals has an immediate need for a Mental Health Psychiatrist to support the Juvenile Justice Mental Health Program (JJMHP) in Service Area 7, serving the Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall in Downey, CA, and the Dorothy Kirby Center in Commerce, CA.This role will focus on providing psychiatric evaluation and treatment services to justice-involved youth within Los Angeles County's juvenile facilities.

About the Program and Position

The Juvenile Justice Mental Health Program (JJMHP) is a multidisciplinary initiative led by the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (LACDMH) in collaboration with the Department of Probation, Juvenile Court Health Services (JCHS), LA County Office of Education, Department of Youth Development (DYD), and Substance Abuse Prevention and Control (SAPC).
The program provides mental health services to youth with severe mental illnesses and co-occurring disorders in juvenile detention settings.

In this role, the Psychiatrist will perform comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and therapeutic support for justice-involved youth. Appointments range from 150-minute initial assessments to 60-90-minute follow-ups, with documentation completed in the Probation Electronic Medical Record System (PEMRS). The Psychiatrist will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team through bi-weekly meetings, weekly onsite sessions, and daily coordination via Microsoft Teams and Outlook.

Pay Rate: $265/HR

Schedule:

  • Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm (5/40 schedule)

  • OR Monday-Thursday, 8:00am-6:30pm (4/40 schedule)

Job Duties:

  • Evaluate, diagnose, and treat the mental health needs of youth in juvenile justice facilities.
  • Assess and prescribe psychotropic medications; complete appropriate consents (JV-220A/B, Court Consents, or Witnessed Telephonic/Adult Consents) immediately after prescribing.
  • Monitor, document, and adjust treatment plans as necessary based on client response.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to provide consultation on mental health assessments, differential diagnoses, treatment planning, and non-pharmacologic interventions.
  • Partner with entities such as JCHS/DHS, SAPC, Probation, DYD, and LACOE to ensure coordinated care.
  • Respond to inquiries from courts and oversight agencies including the California Department of Justice (Cal-DOJ) Monitoring Team, Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC), and the National Commission of Correctional Health Care (NCCHC).

Requirements:

  • Completion of a Psychiatry Residency and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship from an ACGME-accredited program.
  • Board Certified in both Psychiatry and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry.
  • Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills, proficiency in electronic medical record systems, and the ability to work collaboratively in a high-demand clinical environment.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and maintain attention to detail.
  • Commitment to serving the needs of justice-involved youth and supporting community-based rehabilitation efforts.
