MEP Design Engineer

Role Overview

The MEP Design Engineer is responsible for the development, coordination, technical integrity, and compliance of all Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) designs across the project(s). The role is design-focused, with strong involvement in ensuring that executed MEP works on site strictly comply with approved designs, specifications, and performance requirements.

The position requires a candidate with strong multidisciplinary MEP design expertise, combined with practical site experience, enabling effective coordination between design intent and site execution.

Key Responsibilities

1. MEP Design Development & Technical Leadership

· Lead and manage the preparation, review, and coordination of MEP design packages across mechanical, electrical, and plumbing disciplines.

· Develop and review concept, schematic, detailed, and IFC MEP designs in line with project requirements and standards.

· Ensure all MEP designs comply with:

1. Applicable codes and standards

2. Project specifications

3. Authority and statutory requirements

· Lead the development and detailing of MEP design and technical specifications, establishing clear material standards, system requirements, and performance criteria to support coordinated, compliant design delivery.

· Provide technical guidance to ensure design solutions are practical, coordinated, and constructible.

2. Design Coordination & Integration

· Coordinate MEP designs with:

1. Architectural layouts

2. Structural systems

3. Civil and infrastructure designs

· Identify and resolve design clashes and coordination issues prior to construction.

· Review and validate shop drawings, technical submissions, calculations, and material specifications related to MEP systems.

3. Design Compliance & Site Verification

· Review executed MEP works on site to confirm compliance with approved designs, drawings, and specifications.

· Identify deviations, non-conformances, or technical discrepancies between design and site execution.

· Issue technical clarifications, design revisions, or corrective instructions where required.

· Support quality control teams by providing design interpretation and technical validation.

4. Technical Reviews & Approvals

· Review contractor and subcontractor MEP submissions, including:

1. Shop drawings

2. Method statements

3. Material approvals

4. Calculations and equipment selections

· Ensure selected systems and materials meet:

5. Design intent

6. Performance requirements

7. Long-term operational and maintenance considerations

5. Collaboration & Stakeholder Support

· Work closely with the Head of Design to maintain consistency, quality, and technical direction across all MEP designs.

· Coordinate with project engineers, site teams, and consultants to resolve technical issues efficiently.

· Provide expert MEP input during design reviews, value engineering exercises, and technical meetings.

· Collaborate with Procurement to recommend and approve technically compliant alternatives or substitutions where specified materials are unavailable, while safeguarding design intent and performance criteria.

Qualifications & Experience

· Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent MEP-related discipline.

· 15 years combined experience in Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing engineering.

· Demonstrated background working on both design office and construction site environments.

· Proven experience delivering and reviewing MEP designs for complex building or development projects.

· Practical understanding of how design decisions affect site installation, sequencing, and constructability.

- Candidate is willing to travel outside UAE for project site visits.

Technical Skills & Competencies

· Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, electrical power and low-current systems, plumbing, drainage, and water supply systems

· Ability to interpret and review MEP drawings, specifications, calculations, performance criteria, shop drawings and technical submittals

· Strong coordination and technical problem-solving skills.
