Key Responsibilities of a Merchandiser:
Product Planning & Selection:
  • Analyze customer demand and market trends.
  • Select and source products in line with customer preferences and seasonal trends.
  • Work with suppliers or manufacturers to develop or choose products.
Inventory Management:
  • Monitor stock levels and forecast demand.
  • Ensure optimal stock levels to avoid overstocking or stockouts.
  • Coordinate with warehouse and logistics teams for timely deliveries.
Pricing Strategy:
  • Set competitive pricing based on market analysis, profit margins, and sales targets.
  • Monitor competitor pricing and adjust accordingly.
Sales & Performance Analysis:
  • Track sales data to measure product performance.
  • Prepare reports and make decisions on reordering, discontinuing, or discounting items.
Visual Merchandising (for Retail Merchandisers):
  • Plan and implement product displays in stores to attract customers.
  • Ensure products are well-presented and aligned with brand guidelines.
Supplier & Vendor Coordination:
  • Communicate with suppliers for orders, deliveries, and quality checks.
  • Negotiate terms such as price, delivery time, and payment conditions.
Promotion & Marketing Support:
  • Coordinate with marketing teams on promotional campaigns and seasonal sales.
  • Ensure promotional products are available and properly displayed.
Store Visits & Audits (if applicable):
  • Visit stores to check product availability, displays, and competitor activity.
  • Provide feedback to store managers on product positioning and presentation.
