Metadata and Media Archivist

Overview of the Role

The Metadata & Media Archivist supports a content management and information services team responsible for identifying, cataloging, and preserving video assets. This role enables rapid and accurate access to video resources for newsroom, digital, and production teams and contributes to long-term preservation of legacy media. The position requires strong archival research skills, editorial judgment, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

The Basics

Duration: 2 years

Hours: Full-time, approximately 40 hours per week

Location Requirements: Hybrid schedule with two on-site days per week

Top Three Required Qualifications

  1. At least 1 year of reference experience, including conducting reference interviews
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of news and current events with strong editorial judgment
  3. Experience in media production or journalism, with the ability to work under tight deadlines

Other Qualifications

  • Attention to detail and strong customer service orientation
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple requests
  • Flexibility to support a 24x7 news operation, including potential evening or overnight shifts
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365
  • Advanced degree in Library or Information Science or related field preferred

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct archival research using advanced search techniques to locate video assets for programming, digital content, licensing, promotions, and other production needs
  • Apply and enhance metadata following departmental standards and professional cataloging guidelines to ensure accuracy, discoverability, and usability
  • Create original catalog records for legacy tape materials and prepare assets for digitization as part of ongoing preservation efforts
  • Support production partners by ensuring rapid, accurate delivery of archival content in a deadline-driven environment
