Job Summary/Description:

KWTX in Waco, TX, seeks an experienced Morning/Midday Meteorologist to join our First Alert Weather Team. The Meteorologist will work closely with the Chief Meteorologist, news managers, and producers to execute our aggressive First Alert Weather brand in daily newscasts, on our expanding digital platforms, and during severe weather events. We use the latest weather-tracking technology, including two interactive storm-tracking vehicles, to out-forecast our competitors every day on every platform.

Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Expert Analysis & Forecasting: Analyze cutting-edge scientific data, models, and all available relevant information to craft accurate and reliable weather forecasts for our diverse viewing area.
  • Compelling Communication: Deliver engaging and conversational weather presentations across all platforms, including broadcast, streaming, digital, and social media, ensuring our audience is always informed and prepared.
  • Storytelling the Weather: Identify and articulate the "weather story of the day," translating complex meteorological information into clear, concise, and impactful narratives for a cross-platform audience.
  • Severe Weather Preparedness: Accurately forecast and meticulously track severe weather events, providing timely and life-saving information to the community.
  • Collaborative Planning: Effectively communicate short and long-range weather insights to the editorial staff, facilitating proactive planning and seamless news integration.
  • Innovative Graphics & Data Visualization: Conceptualize and create dynamic weather graphics, leveraging data from various meteorological sources to present engaging and easy-to-understand forecasts.
  • Versatile Presence: Be available to work both in our state-of-the-art studio and in the field, bringing our viewers the weather story wherever it unfolds.

Qualification/Requirement:

  • Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience as a broadcast meteorologist.
  • Technical Proficiency: Command of the WSI MAX system is preferred.
  • Educational Background: A BS/BA in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, Communications, Journalism, or an equivalent background is required. Seals from the National Weather Association and/or American Meteorological Society are a plus, but not mandatory.
  • Flexibility: Adaptability with scheduling and/or assigned work shifts is essential, particularly given the unpredictable nature of weather events.
  • Driving Requirements: A clean driving record, the ability to drive safely in various weather conditions, and a valid driver's license are mandatory for this position.
