Meter Services Data Collection Agent Installation Intern

Position Overview:

The Meter Services Data Collection Agent Installation Intern will support our client operations by deploying data collection agents (DCAs) on client networks and configuring DCA clusters in our MPS Monitor software.

This role is ideal for a student studying Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Networking, or a related technology field who wants hands-on experience working with real customers, real environments, and enterprise monitoring tools.

The intern will work from a defined list of client accounts to remotely install DCAs, troubleshoot basic deployment issues, and DCA Cluste is set up correctly. This position requires a blend of customer service skills and technical aptitude to communicate clearly with clients and guide them through the installation process.

Key Responsibilities:

DCA Deployment & Configuration

  • Remotely deploy data collection agents (DCAs) on client networks according to established procedures.
  • Create and manage DCA clusters in MPS Monitor, ensuring proper association with client environments.
  • Verify successful installation by confirming DCA Cluster.
  • Assist in troubleshooting basic connectivity, permissions, and configuration issues related to agent deployment.

Client Communication & Support

  • Proactively email and call assigned clients to schedule and complete remote software deployments.
  • Walk clients through installation steps, including downloading agents, running installers, and validating connectivity.
  • Provide clear, non-technical explanations when needed while maintaining professionalism and confidence.
  • Document customer interactions, installation details, and outcomes in the appropriate tracking software.

Process & Documentation

  • Follow established meter services and security guidelines for working within client environments.
  • Update internal notes, deployment checklists, and configuration records to ensure accurate account documentation.
  • Escalate complex technical or network issues to senior team members following defined escalation paths.

Collaboration & Learning

  • Work closely with the Meter Services team to understand overall workflows.
  • Participate in training on MPS Monitor.
  • Learn best practices for remote support, customer communication, and working in production environments.

Required Qualifications:

Currently pursuing an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in:

  • Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Networking, Cybersecurity, or a related technology field.

Foundational understanding of:

  • Windows operating systems and basic software installation processes.
  • Networks concepts (LAN/WAN, IP addresses, basic firewall/permissions concepts).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable speaking with customers over phone and email.
  • Demonstrated customer service mindset: patient, professional, and solution-focused.
  • Ability to follow structured procedures, checklists, and technical documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and accurate record-keeping.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with remote support tools (e.g., remote desktop, screen sharing solutions).

Exposure to or interest in:

  • Managed print services, monitoring tools, or systems administration.
  • Working with SNMP or device discovery tools (not required but a plus).
  • Prior experience in a help desk, technical support, or customer-facing role (internship, part-time, or project-based).
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and managing multiple client tasks concurrently.

  • Organization: Manages a queue of client installations, tracks status, and meets timelines.
  • Teamwork: Collaborates with meter services, IT, and account teams; open to feedback and coaching.

Internship Details:

  • Duration: 8–12 weeks, Summer 2026
  • Schedule: 32–40 hours per week, Monday–Friday during business hours.
  • Compensation: $18 an hour
  • Work Environment: onsite at the Beaverton office
