Job Title: Upper Elementary (ELA) Teacher for Twice-Exceptional (2e) neurodiverse Students

Location: Newport Beach, CA

Job Type: Full-time/Part-time

Job Summary:We are seeking a compassionate and experienced English Language Arts (ELA) teacher to work with twice-exceptional (2e) students at our Academy in Newport Beach, CA. 2e students are those who demonstrate both exceptional academic abilities and challenges such as ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, or other learning differences. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of differentiated instruction and experience supporting students who need both intellectual enrichment and individualized support for their unique learning needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement ELA curriculum: Tailor lessons to challenge gifted students while supporting their specific learning challenges, such as executive functioning, social-emotional regulation, and processing difficulties.
  • Create a safe and nurturing environment: Foster a classroom atmosphere that is sensitive to the emotional and social needs of 2e students.
  • Individualized instruction: Provide one-on-one and small group instruction to accommodate diverse learning styles and paces.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team: Work with special education teachers, psychologists, therapists, and parents to create a comprehensive educational plan tailored to each student’s needs.
  • Monitor student progress: Use formative and summative assessments to track academic growth and personal development. Provide regular feedback to students, parents, and staff.
  • Incorporate technology and multi-sensory learning techniques: Use various tools and methods to engage students and enhance comprehension and retention, such as audiobooks, visual aids, and interactive technology.
  • Encourage self-advocacy and independence: Teach students strategies for managing their learning challenges while promoting a growth mindset and fostering a love for reading, writing, and critical thinking.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in English, Education, or a related field.
  • State certification in Secondary English or Special Education preferred.
  • BT experience or RBT training preferred
  • Experience working with twice-exceptional (2e) or gifted and learning-different students.
  • Knowledge of differentiated instruction and accommodations for neurodiverse learners.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Passion for literature, writing, and language arts.
  • Patience, empathy, and a flexible teaching style.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Training in specific learning differences such as ADHD, ASD, dyslexia, or other neurodevelopmental conditions.
  • Familiarity with assistive technology and alternative teaching methods (e.g., Universal Design for Learning, Orton-Gillingham, or multisensory approaches).

Working Environment: The role is set within a specialized learning center at 2e4Me Academy, designed for students who need individualized attention and specialized educational interventions. Class sizes are small to allow for more direct interaction and personalized learning experiences.

Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
