Role Summary

As a Middle School Librarian, you will inspire and support students and staff by providing access to a diverse range of resources and instruction. Working in a student-centered environment, you will manage the library media center’s operations, curate a collection that reflects our community's brilliance, and teach essential information literacy skills. You will work collaboratively with classroom teachers to integrate research skills and technology into the curriculum, ensuring every student becomes a savvy, critical thinker in the digital age.

  • Certified Professional: Valid Missouri Teaching Certification in Library Media Specialist (K-12) .
  • Degree Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s in Library Science (MLS/MLIS) highly preferred.

Your Impact (Key Duties)

  • Cultivate Curiosity: Design and lead lessons on research strategies, copyright ethics, and media literacy to help students navigate a complex information landscape.
  • Curate Excellence: Manage the selection, purchasing, and weeding of a high-interest collection that supports the curriculum and independent reading.
  • Co-Teach for Success: Partner with classroom teachers to design inquiry-based projects that utilize library resources and digital databases.
  • Transform the Space: Create an inviting, inclusive environment that supports individual study, collaborative groups, and "Maker" activities.
  • Promote a Reading Culture: Lead book clubs, author visits, and literacy challenges that make reading the "coolest" thing to do in middle school.

The Logistics of Your Success

  • Classification: Exempt, Certified Staff
  • Work Year: 10-Month Academic Calendar (187 Contract Days)
  • Salary: Based on the Teacher Salary Schedule, determined by experience and education level.
