Position Summary: MAISA is seeking a Data System Engineer to design, implement, and maintain a modern enterprise data infrastructure with a focus on data ingestion and data processing for our statewide K12 Big Data ecosystem solution called MiGreatDataLake. This position is responsible for ensuring the data infrastructure is scalable, secure, and efficient. The MiGreatDataLake team will work closely with the Project Advisory, MAISA membership, and a variety of data consumers to understand data requirements and deliver solutions that enhance data accessibility, integrity, and usability to support data-driven decision-making, improve student outcomes, and enhance operational efficiency. Qualifications:
- Experience in K-12 data management, including knowledge of student information systems (SIS), learning management systems (LMS), and other educational data platforms.
- Co-Design/architect, implement, manage, and continuously innovate a robust modern enterprise data infrastructure
- Develop and maintain data ingestion processes to populate data infrastructure from various sources across the enterprise
- Develop and maintain data processing processes to populate data infrastructure from various sources across the enterprise
- Establish a Data Governance Center of Excellence to ensure data integrity, accuracy, and security in compliance with policies, educational regulations, and state and federal laws.
- Work closely with the development team, educational staff, administrators, and other data consumers to understand data needs and translate them into technical solutions
- Participate in the development and implementation of strategic initiatives aimed at improving student outcomes and operational efficiency
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Experience with AWS, Google Cloud, and/or other cloud platforms
- Experience with data modeling, warehousing, and building ETL pipelines
- Experience with AWS Glue
- SQL and Python Programming/scripting skills
- Knowledge of data privacy/security best practices
- Experience with data visualization and analysis
- Working knowledge of BI tools (like Tableau, Power BI, or others) and their integration with modern data architectures for data consumption,
- Knowledge of best practices integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) resources in the modern Data warehouse environment
- Able to convey complex data insights to non-technical audiences
- A candidate with extensive K12 data management experience may be considered if they:
- Demonstrate an ability and willingness to learn and apply new technologies in data management and cloud platforms.
- Demonstrate how K-12 data experience translates to these essential functions, with a clear ability to learn and apply new tools (e.g., AWS Glue, Google Cloud services).
- Experience working with K–12 student data, including demographics, assessments, attendance, and standardized test scores
- Knowledge of education standards like Ed-Fi or Common Education Data Standards (CEDS)
- Implement and manage role-based access controls (RBAC) to ensure secure and compliant data access across user groups

Wages and Benefits:
- An annual salary of $90,000 – $100,000, 401k contribution, and medical benefits are included
Conditions:
- Must be a resident of the State of Michigan
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
- This is an at-will position and can be terminated by either party
- The position is dependent on renewal based on performance review and funding
