Military Affairs Security Officer- Senior

The State of Wisconsin, Department of Military Affairs (DMA) is hiring a Military Affairs Security Officer-Senior/ Security Officer- Lead. This position is located at the Air National Guard, Truax Field, in Madison.

Days and work hours: Day shift, 2-2-3 Rotation, 12 hour shifts.

Position Summary


The Truax Field Security Officer – Lead position is a civilian position responsible for providing leadership and decision making relating to the operation of the State Security located at Truax Field, during their assigned shift, under the direction of the State Security Supervisor and Security Forces Manager. This position is responsible for ensuring that officers on shift are correctly completing the required duties of the department in accordance with regulations and policies. This position will also function as trainer for all State Officers assigned to Truax Field working closely with Air National Guard Security Forces training managers to ensure the officers are completing their required training. This position will also perform the duties of a Truax Field Security Officer to accomplish the mission of securing and protecting personnel, property, and resources within Truax Field.

Salary Information


New hires currently start at $27.05 per hour once they pass the qualification to carry firearms.

This starting wage consists of a base pay of $25.05 per hour, plus a $2.00 per hour add-on to the hourly rate for carrying a firearm while on duty. (The employer will provide the required firearm training.) These positions also have Protective Occupation Status within the Wisconsin Retirement System, which is an accelerated retirement benefit.

For current permanent state employees, pay will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.

The Department of Military Affairs does not sponsor work visas at the time of hire or anytime during employment. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required Employment Eligibility Form I-9.

Job Details


Conditions of employment for this position:

Must possess or be eligible to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license as a condition of continued employment.

Must be at least 18 years old and possess a high school diploma, GED, or HSED.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a military driver’s license as a condition of continued employment. You will be trained on specific vehicles and will receive assistance to obtain the licensure if you do not already possess.

In order to gain access to the military facilities and to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled, DMA will conduct a comprehensive background check.

In addition, the position requires a Common Access Card (CAC). A CAC requires successful completion of a Department of Defense investigation and an additional more in-depth federal background check, for gaining access to federal computer systems, restricted locations, or classified information.

Must meet the physical and mental standards established by military regulations. Successful candidates will be required to pass a pre-employment medical evaluation, including a drug screen: a psychological assessment; and will be required to complete a fitness/agility test consisting of; push-ups (18), sit ups (24), sprint (300 meter in 90 seconds), run (1.5 mile in 20 min), push (67lbs), pull (77lbs), drag/carry (145lbs-25ft) and lift (70lbs).

Must be legally able to use a firearm under the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968.

Must apply for and be successful in obtaining a military Tier 3 security clearance.

A twelve-month probationary period is required.

All new permanent, project, and limited term employees will be required to report to Joint Force Headquarters (JFHQ) in Madison on the Monday of their first week of employment for the New Employee Orientation (NEO) program. Additional information will be sent to the new employees and their supervisors on the Tuesday prior to NEO.

Qualifications


Candidates who meet minimum qualifications will have experience with:

  • Assessing and creating training needs and providing training to staff
  • Working in law enforcement, security, and/or military
  • Working in a leadership role

Well-Qualified candidates will also have experience with:

  • Interpreting and upholding policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Working independently in a high stress environment
  • Communicating/providing customer service or direction
