SUMMARY -

The Mill BioChemist works alongside the Chemical and Production teams in order to oversee the management, performance, and optimization of all chemical systems to enhance safety, quality, and operational excellence, while contributing to our company's vision of sustainable innovation. This role has a primary focus on the bacterial control portion of our chemistries, but also assists across the plant with all chemistries.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES -

The Mill BioChemist's primary responsibilities as part of the mill operational team include, but are not limited to:

  • Test and maintain bacterial control of our water system and preserved additive chemistries
  • Maintaining safety standards in the chemical areas
  • Maintaining chemical delivery systems and product handling
  • Participating in conducting and evaluating chemical trials
  • Training operators on general chemical concepts and programs
  • Monitor the end-use specifications of the produced paper to tune chemical dosages for cost reduction
  • Monthly on-call rotation participation, once adequately trained
  • Work collaboratively and communicate effectively within a fast-paced environment

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / SKILLS -

  • BS in Chemical Engineering, Paper Science, or a related field
  • 1 - 2 years of Paper Mill or Chemical Technical Service / Sales experience
  • Basic computer / excel skills

The candidate must be able to use their knowledge of papermaking and chemistry to solve process, equipment and quality problems. Applying your knowledge of chemical reactions and mathematical trends to troubleshoot and solve technical issues. Some mechanical / electrical knowledge or aptitude is beneficial.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS -

Employee is regularly required to walk, talk, and hear.

Employee is frequently required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, feel; reach with hands and arms.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Vision requirements include: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT -

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. This is a hands-on role in a standard production environment.
