Job Summary
The Mill Operator is responsible for operating and monitoring various milling equipment to crush, grind, and process ore into concentrate. This position involves maintaining proper operating parameters, sampling materials, and supporting plant maintenance and housekeeping. Operators must work as part of a team to ensure safe, continuous, and efficient operation of the mill circuit under the supervision of the Mill Supervisor.
Duties
Operates and monitors milling circuits by:
- Starting and controlling crushers, grinding mills, flotation cells, thickeners, and filter presses
- Observing gauges, dials, and process flows to ensure optimal performance
- Adjusting feed rates, reagent additions, and operating parameters as required
Performs sampling and quality checks by:
- Collecting ore, slurry, and concentrate samples on schedule
- Recording data and reporting deviations in ore grade or circuit behavior
- Coordinating with lab technicians and metallurgy staff for process control
Maintains safe and clean work areas by:
- Following all MSHA and company safety policies and procedures
- Conducting regular inspections and cleaning of equipment and workspaces
- Reporting equipment hazards, leaks, or process upsets to supervision
Supports mill maintenance and reliability by:
- Assisting with equipment shutdowns, washouts, and preventative maintenance
- Greasing, lubricating, and checking levels in assigned areas
- Performing minor mechanical tasks as directed
Contributes to efficient mill operation by:
- Participating in shift handoffs and team communication
- Following SOPs and responding quickly to alarms or operational issues
- Supporting continuous improvement in safety, efficiency, and recovery
Experience
- Proven experience operating underground mining equipment or surface mining machinery in a fast-paced environment
- Hands-on experience with drilling machines used in mining or construction settings, including machine drilling techniques
- Knowledge of underground coal mine operations or similar extraction processes is highly desirable
- Familiarity with industrial equipment maintenance, welding, heavy lifting, and manual handling procedures
- Demonstrated ability to follow safety standards rigorously while working outdoors on construction sites or mining operations
- Previous experience working with Caterpillar equipment or similar heavy machinery preferred
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot equipment issues efficiently

Pay: $31.25 - $32.02 per hour
