Mine Engineer-Keetac Short Range Planner

U. S. Steel is seeking a Short-Range Planner for its Keetac Mine Engineering Department. This position reports directly to the Manager of Short-Range Planning at Minnesota Ore Operations. The salary range of $69,278.40 - $103,917.60 is a good faith estimate. Based on candidate skills/experience the final offer may be lower/higher. This is a safety sensitive position requiring drug and alcohol testing.

Administering U. S. Steel's safety program and initiatives for the department ensuring management's commitment and ensuring a safe work environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Daily
  • Daily and Shovel Sequence. Plan drives drill and blast schedule + pattern clean up activities. Achieves daily blend plan – MagFe/ConSi constraints. Optimize daily mine plan
  • Sump/dewatering plan- efficient SR sequence to accommodate sumps. Optimal placement of sumps
  • Compliance-to-plan- monitor and drive.
  • Royalty tons- compliance to US Steel/State material delivery schedule as defined in the AOP/Long Range Plan
  • Drop-cut/ Ramp Face up designs
  • Participate in daily meetings
  • Mine tours- Operations and Engineering (206)
  • management and related departments to ensure an efficient productive facility. This position is also responsible for administering the U. S. Steel
Weekly
  • Generate weekly mine plan
  • Update 5-week plan (3-month plan)- 3 or more benches fully sequenced day-by-day
  • Compliance-to-plan- Quantify and report. Work with operations to drive compliance >80%
  • Run weekly meeting
  • Risk Assessment- Review Plan Risk assessment identified in the Mid-Range plan
Monthly
  • EOM mine tons generation and reporting/ leases
  • Location of major shovel downs
REQUIREMENTS:
  • This position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Mine Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or Civil Engineering.
  • The position also requires 1-3 years of applicable work experience.
  • Level and salary will be based on experience.
  • All successful candidates are subject to background checks, pre-employment physical examinations and drug and alcohol screening.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
  • The preferred candidate will be knowledgeable in taconite mining and have a strong geological/mineralogy background and demonstrated knowledge and experience with AutoCAD, GPS surveying instruments, mine planning software, truck dispatch software, mine mapping, and be knowledgeable in taconite mining, concentrating, and pelletizing operations as well as have a background in mining or a related industrial field.
  • In addition, the successful candidate must be independent with the ability to make sound operating and mechanical decisions with little input from other managers.
