A quarry plant maintenance lead is a supervisory role, responsible for overseeing and coordinating the maintenance and repair of a quarry's equipment and facilities. This involves assigning tasks to maintenance staff, ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently, performing inspections and minor repairs, and assisting with preventative maintenance programs. Key skills include knowledge of heavy equipment, welding, mechanics, and strong leadership and communication abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise maintenance staff: Assign tasks to and oversee the work of maintenance technicians and mechanics.
  • Perform and lead repairs: Conduct inspections and perform routine maintenance, as well as more complex repairs on plant and mobile equipment. This includes tasks like filter changes, part replacements, and system overhauls.
  • Manage maintenance programs: Assist in the implementation and execution of preventative and predictive maintenance programs to minimize downtime.
  • Ensure safety compliance: Conduct daily safety checks of equipment and operations, and ensure all maintenance work is performed in a safe and compliant manner.
  • Troubleshoot issues: Assist with troubleshooting process malfunctions and determine the necessary maintenance actions.
  • Maintain equipment records: Ensure equipment catalogs are accurate and reflect all plant equipment changes.
Skills and qualifications

  • Technical knowledge: Proficiency in working with heavy equipment, welding, cutting, and general mechanics is essential.
  • Leadership and communication: The ability to effectively communicate with the maintenance team, other staff, and management is critical.
  • Safety-oriented: A strong commitment to safety and safe work habits is a must.
  • Problem-solving: The ability to identify and solve maintenance issues in a timely manner is vital.
  • Basic education: A high school diploma or equivalent is typically required.
  • Experience: Several years of experience with plant equipment, preferably in an aggregate or quarry operation, is often preferred.
