Miscellaneous TEMP - Forensic Nurse (CVRCC)

Position Summary

Works under the general direction of the CVRCC Nursing Coordinator to provide nursing care to victims of sexual assault.

Pay Grade: 56H

Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited R.N. program and holds a master’s degree or higher from an accredited Nursing program.
  • Licensed as an R.N. and as an Advanced Practice Nurse with a certificate of fitness for prescribing; AND
  • Certified through ANCC or AANP as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.


Duties and Responsibilities
  • Interviews victims of sexual violence for histories of assault.
  • Performs physical exams of adults and children and documents accurately.
  • Documents injuries, pertinent physical findings, and child development via diagrams and through clear digital photographs on the agency camera.
  • Collects evidence from victims.
  • Correctly packages this evidence, following standard chain of evidence procedure.
  • Provides age-appropriate nursing care, regulated by the Tennessee Nurse Practice Act.
  • Provides prophylactic treatment for certain STIs and pregnancy, utilizing standard medical protocol.
  • Refers for emergency care and follow-up as appropriate.
  • Testifies as an expert witness in Criminal, Juvenile, and Federal Courts.
  • Participates in the training of nurses and physicians.
  • Attends after-hours Nursing staff meetings.

KSAs
  • Ability to assess victims of sexual violence and determine their physical and psychosocial needs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally with victims, family members, law enforcement, personnel from other agencies, and staff.
  • Ability to provide individualized, compassionate, professional, and culturally sensitive care to victims and make appropriate decisions in a timely manner.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office, FileMaker programs, and Nextgen.

Special Requirements
  • Must possess a valid Tennessee driver’s license.
  • Must have daily access to an operable automobile and meet County requirements for automobile insurance upon date of employment.
  • Must be willing to be “ on-call ” as scheduled and willing to work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must complete the Orientation/Training phase of employment within three months of start.
