Mohs Lab Assistant

We are seeking a motivated Mohs Lab Assistant to join our team and support the precise and efficient processing of tissue specimens for Mohs micrographic surgery. This position offers an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced clinical laboratory setting. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, proactive, and eager to contribute to high-quality patient outcomes through meticulous laboratory work. Duties
Assist with the preparation and processing of tissue specimens for Mohs surgery, ensuring adherence to strict laboratory protocols and aseptic techniques. Support the collection and processing of skin biopsy specimens, maintaining proper labeling, documentation, and chain-of-custody procedures. Maintain accurate records of specimen receipt, processing steps, and storage in compliance with laboratory standards. Assist with the calibration, cleaning, and maintenance of laboratory equipment used in specimen processing.
Proven experience in clinical or research laboratory environments, with familiarity in laboratory procedures and techniques. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced setting while maintaining high standards of quality control. Effective communication skills for collaborating with medical professionals and supporting patient care activities. Job description:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Tissue Sample Preparation: Embedding and cutting tissue samples, preparing slides for staining, and performing special stains with controls.
  • Quality Control & Maintenance: Routine maintenance of lab instruments, troubleshooting, and documentation. Ensuring accurate labeling, collation, and delivery of slides to dermatologists.
  • Safety and Cleanliness: Keeping the lab organized, stocked, and free from hazards, with quality control checks on reagents and daily maintenance.
  • Communication: Working effectively with lab personnel and dermatology staff to address issues and foster a collaborative work environment.
  • MOHS Lab Experience: Working in a lab specializing in MOHS dermatologic surgery.

Requirements:

  • Licensure and Certification: A Florida Histotechnologist license is preferred, with a national certification (e.g., ASCP) preferred, or a Bachelor’s degree in Science.
  • OR
  • Training: Willing to train the right candidate if they demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, reliability, attention to detail, and a proactive, team-oriented approach.
