Mortgage Loan Officer Job Summary:

Employee is responsible for the origination, processing and closing of Mortgage Loans for members, both existing and new. Employee will also be required to serve as a resource in helping train branch staff in their endeavors to originate and close mortgage loans, as well as assisting the mortgage department in ensuring smooth process for the best member experience possible. This position will be expected to develop referral relationships with realtors, builders, and other Centers of Influence (COIs) to create referral opportunities.


Mortgage Loan Officer Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, accounting or related work experience and/or a minimum of three (3) years as a Mortgage Loan Officer. Must possess an active state Mortgage Loan Originator license (NMLS). Knowledge of conventional, FHA, VA, USDA, and portfolio mortgage products. Must have reliable transportation.


Essential Elements of the Mortgage Loan Officer:

1. Serve as a liaison with the member and the Credit Union, including meeting with and discussing mortgage loans and other credit union products with members or potential members to determine what best meets their needs.

2. Represent the credit union at community events, homebuyer seminars, and partner meetings to expand awareness of mortgage offerings.

3. Maintain working relationship with Credit Union Mortgage department to process mortgage loan requests and completion of documents to close.

4. Knowledge of all mortgage products to be place the member in what appropriately meets their needs.

5. Ensure all mortgage activities conform to NCUA regulations, internal lending policies, and federal/state laws (e.g., TILA, RESPA, ECOA, HMDA).

6. Ability to maintain calling efforts, goals and loan origination numbers as determined by management expectations.

7. Maintain efficient flow of pipeline and provide quality member service.

8. Provide quality member service by ensuring confidentiality of member’s files and recording established guidelines.

9. Identify opportunities to cross-sell credit union products and services that add value to the membership.

10. Collaborate with underwriting, processing, and closing teams to ensure seamless member experience.


Additional Job Requirements:

1. Serve as a professional representative and ambassador of MidWest America by maintaining a visible, positive presence within the community and real estate market.

2. Participate in special projects, seminars, continuing education, training sessions, workshops, and on committees as required.

3. Other duties as assigned.


Job Skills and Work Relations:

Employee must demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills and effectively handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Incumbent must possess good negotiation skills, have initiative, demonstrate independent thinking and ability to analyze return and financial statements, display professionalism in dealing with internal and external contacts and maintain confidentially at all times.
