Municipal Court Clerk

The City of Maize is seeking a detail-oriented, customer-focused professional to serve as our next Municipal Court Clerk. This position plays a vital role in the daily operations of the Municipal Court by maintaining court records, processing citations, managing financial transactions, and supporting the Municipal Judge during court proceedings.

Essential Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate and confidential Municipal Court records.
• Process citations from filing through final disposition.
• Prepare court dockets, calendars, notices, warrants, and related documents.
• Attend Municipal Court sessions and assist the Municipal Judge during proceedings.
• Collect, receipt, reconcile, and deposit court fines, fees, and bonds.
• Monitor diversion agreements, probation requirements, restitution, and payment plans.
• Process warrants through the Kansas Criminal Justice Information System (KCJIS) and other applicable systems.
• Coordinate with law enforcement, attorneys, the Municipal Judge, and City Prosecutor.
• Provide outstanding customer service while interacting with defendants, attorneys, law enforcement personnel, and the public.
• Maintain confidentiality of sensitive court and criminal justice information.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma or GED.
• Three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative, clerical, or customer service experience.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn specialized court software.

Preferred

• Experience working in a Municipal Court or judicial environment.
• Associate degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.

Special Requirements

• Must successfully complete fingerprint-based screening and maintain eligibility for access to the Kansas Criminal Justice Information System (KCJIS).
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of criminal justice information.
