Municipal Garbage Truck Driver

We are seeking a motivated and dependable Municipal Garbage Truck Driver to join our Public Works team. In this vital role, you will operate various types of waste collection trucks to ensure the safe and efficient pickup and disposal of refuse throughout the town. Your expertise in driving heavy-duty trucks and handling waste collection equipment will help keep our community clean and well-maintained.

Essential Job Functions:

• Safely and proficiently operates Town Sanitation trucks and equipment as assigned
• During operation, observes performance of equipment and reports malfunctions to the Mechanic.
• Operates dump trucks and/or other heavy equipment with plow attachments to plow and salt Town roads, parking lots, grounds, and facilities as needed
• Makes routine safety checks of equipment prior to and after operation
• Cleans all vehicles and equipment as required
• Performs general work assignments and reports work accomplished to his/her immediate supervisor
• Responds to off-duty emergency calls as needed and participates in snow removal operations as required
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule
• Regular attendance is a requirement of this position

Experience

• Proven experience operating commercial heavy-duty trucks such as front loaders, rear loaders, roll-off trucks, dump trucks, tractor-trailers, or flatbeds.
• Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with a clean driving record.
• Mechanical knowledge related to waste collection vehicles for troubleshooting minor issues.
• Experience with manual transmission vehicles preferred.
• Prior work in curbside waste collection is highly desirable.
• Ability to perform physical tasks including heavy lifting and load handling regularly.
• Knowledge of safety procedures related to heavy vehicle operation and waste management.

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee primarily works inside on their sanitation truck; however they may work outdoors in all weather conditions. Employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. While performing the duties of this job the employee may be required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
• The noise level in the work environment is quiet to noisy depending on the task or equipment being used.
• Employee must be free from mental or physical disorders which would interfere with performance of duties as described, and have the ability to maintain his/her composure with the public and co-workers in everyday, stressful and emergency situations.

Pay: From $30.50 per hour
