Job Description
Serve as the welcoming face of safety for the City of Avondale—protect our facilities while delivering exceptional customer service to everyone who walks through our doors!
Provides security for the City Hall complex and other City facilities; enforces rules and regulations; answers questions; provides information to the general public; and provides customer service as required.
Essential Functions
Patrols the City Hall complex, which includes City Hall, Library, City Court, and Police building, both on foot and in a patrol vehicle.
Monitors video surveillance of all City complexes.
Monitors assigned locations and promptly reports emergencies or suspicious activities to the Police Department.
Drives, stands, and walks to City buildings, parking areas, and grounds in designated areas to observe unusual behavior and to prevent vandalism.
Provides customer service assistance, such as directing citizens to other City facilities. Evaluates and resolves customer service-related complaints.
Communicates via portable radio to maintain contact with Police Department resources.
Identifies and reports safety hazards, security concerns, and other deficiencies related to City buildings.
Receives and investigates security-related complaints.
Responds to emergency situations.
Performs security for City Council meetings.

Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED equivalency is required. Knowledge of industrial security policy and procedures, and electronic security alarms and systems.
A minimum of one (1) year of customer service experience, preferably in a law enforcement, security, detention, or related position.
Skilled in using portable radios for clear communication and in responding effectively to emergency situations.
Valid Arizona Operator’s Driver’s License.
Must obtain DPS Terminal Operator Certificate (TOC) within six (6) months of hire.
Must obtain Court Security Officer Certification through the Arizona Court Security Guard Academy within one (1) year of hire date.
Must be able to pass a certified Defensive Tactics Training Course.
Required to wear a ballistic vest and utility belt as part of standard safety equipment.
Must be able to pass a comprehensive background investigation, polygraph examination, and psychological examination.
This position requires participation in a rotational schedule, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
