Nanny / Caregiver

A warm, grounded family in Pepeekeo (Hāmākua Coast, Big Island) is seeking a reliable, confident nanny to support a happy, active 4-year-old. Both parents work remotely from home and are looking for someone who can lead a steady, fun morning rhythm—outdoor time, simple learning, stories, and a smooth lunch routine—so workdays can run without constant interruptions.

This role starts immediately at 3 days/week (M/W/F) and will transition to Monday–Friday for the summer.

ABOUT THE FAMILY

We’re used to having childcare support in the home and truly value consistency, clear communication, and a calm presence. We live on an active farm/business property, so we’re especially looking for someone who is safety-minded and can keep a child within approved areas and out of work zones.

Both parents will be nearby, but during nanny hours we’ll mostly be in our offices—you’ll be the lead.

POSITION DETAILS

Location: Pepeekeo, Hawaiʻi Island (in person)

Start: Immediate

Child: 1 child, age 4

Schedule (Phase 1): Monday / Wednesday / Friday

Schedule (Phase 2 – Summer): Monday–Friday

Hours: 7:30 AM – 1:00 PM (guaranteed)

Additional Hours: Possible extra support during school breaks or occasional additional hours by mutual agreement

DAILY FLOW

• 7:30–8:15 Finish breakfast + quick tidy (child can put dishes in the sink)
• 8:15–8:45 Get dressed if needed + bathroom/wash hands/face
• 8:45–10:00 Indoor/outdoor play (active time encouraged)
• Around 10:00 Short learning block (letters, numbers, counting—lesson sometimes provided)
• 10:30–12:00 More play and/or reading (outdoor time encouraged)
• 12:00 Lunch (usually prepared and labeled)

RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary Childcare

• Provide attentive, reliable care for one 4-year-old
• Support a fun, active, age-appropriate daily rhythm
• Engage in play, exploration, outdoor time, activities, and reading

Routine Support

• Help with morning transitions (breakfast → dressed → play → learning → lunch)
• Keep child engaged while parents work from home
• Collaborate with parents while working independently and confidently

Safety + House Policies

• No screen time during work hours
• Active farm/business property: child must stay out of work zones and within approved play areas
• Close gates/doors behind you and maintain consistent supervision

CONFIDENTIALITY & PRIVACY REQUIREMENTS

• No visitors on the property during work hours unless authorized in advance
• No posting our child on social media (photos/video/name/identifying details)
• Must keep gate code and household/business details confidential

COMPENSATION

Hourly Rate: $22/hour

Payment: Paid weekly in cash, with a written pay statement

IDEAL CANDIDATE

• Experienced with preschool-aged kids (nanny, teacher, paraeducator, ECE background, or similar)
• Comfortable being the lead with parents working from home
• Strong with gentle structure and smooth transitions
• Reliable transportation and comfortable commuting to Pepeekeo
• Provides 2 strong references
• CPR/First Aid preferred (or willing to obtain)
