Network Administrator — Job Description
Summary
Responsible for designing, installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting an organization’s local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), network segments, firewalls, routers, switches, and other networked services to ensure high availability, security, and performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain network hardware (routers, switches, firewalls, wireless controllers, access points) and cabling.
- Monitor network performance and availability; tune network components for optimal throughput and low latency.
- Manage IP addressing, subnets, VLANs, routing protocols (OSPF, BGP), and NAT.
- Implement and maintain network security: firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, access control lists, network segmentation, and regular vulnerability scans.
- Perform regular backups of network device configurations and restore when needed.
- Troubleshoot and resolve network outages and performance issues; provide on-call support as required.
- Plan and execute network upgrades, patches, and migrations with minimal downtime.
- Maintain documentation: network diagrams, configuration files, change logs, and standard operating procedures.
- Manage wireless networks, including site surveys, SSID design, and security (WPA2/WPA3, 802.1X).
- Coordinate with vendors and third-party service providers for procurement, support, and escalation.
- Enforce and maintain compliance with industry standards and company policies.
- Provide technical guidance and training to IT staff and end users.
- Track inventory and manage spare hardware lifecycle.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field — or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of hands-on network administration experience.
- Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, VPNs, and LAN/WAN technologies.
- Experience configuring and troubleshooting enterprise routers, switches, and firewalls (e.g., Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet, Palo Alto).
- Familiarity with network monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, Zabbix, SolarWinds, PRTG).
- Experience with wireless technologies and standards (802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax).
- Proficiency with network security fundamentals and best practices.
- Scripting or automation experience (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Ansible) preferred.
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Certifications preferred: CCNA/CCNP, CompTIA Network+/Security+, Palo Alto/Juniper/Fortinet certs.
Desired/Optional Skills
- Experience with cloud networking (AWS VPC, Azure Virtual Network, hybrid connectivity).
- Knowledge of SD-WAN, software-defined networking (SDN), and network function virtualization (NFV).
- Experience with load balancers, proxy servers, and content delivery networks (CDNs).
- Familiarity with IAM, multifactor authentication, and endpoint security integration.
- Experience in network capacity planning and cost management.
Working Conditions
- Full‑time, on-site or hybrid depending on company policy.
- May require occasional after-hours work for maintenance, upgrades, or incident response.
- On-call rotation for critical network support.
Pay: QAR55.12 - QAR129.10 per hour
