The Administration Division of the Prosecuting Attorney's office provides administrative and technical support to all divisions of the Prosecuting Attorney’s office, supports the Prosecuting Attorney, and acts as a liaison between the Prosecutor’s office, other County departments, government agencies, and the general public.

Snohomish County offers a generous compensation package. Total compensation for a full time first year Network Administrator is approximately $114,810.00. This includes a gross annual salary of $82,282.00 and annual benefits with a current approximate value of $32,528.00. These benefits consist of medical, dental, vision, FICA, Medicare, Washington State Paid Family and Medical Leave, PERS (pension) and disability insurance.

In addition to these benefits, first year employees receive 96 hours of annual paid sick leave, 80 hours of annual paid vacation leave, 16 additional hours of annual floating holiday leave and 11 paid holidays.

BASIC FUNCTION
To coordinate, develop and implement automation of procedures and processes for a county department. Act as liaison between the county department and Department of Information Technology (DoIT), and other local, county and state agencies as it relates to data processing issues.

Job Duties

STATEMENT OF ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
  • Administers all Local Area Network (LAN) systems by assisting DoIT in the planning and installation of the LAN; provides user names, passwords, and network training to personnel; installs, configures and maintains network software and interface cards to provide access to users; troubleshoots network problems, monitors status and efficiency of LAN and takes appropriate action as necessary; ensures integrity of database contents, monitors transaction activity, and provides database support.
  • Advises and/or assists with application design and analysis of projects where county standard software is being used; provides technical assistance to the staff for other internal software as assigned; coordinates with DoIT to request additional assistance as necessary.
  • Advises and/or assists in testing software development to ensure functional validity, recommending changes to correct deficiencies or to include additional pertinent data not included in original design.
  • Responsible for development and documentation of network procedures.
  • Examines computer equipment that has failed to determine the cause of failure; conducts routine tests to determine performance and reliability of installed equipment; answers client questions and gives technical advice regarding maintenance of equipment; submits requests for Data Processing Services forms to DoIT.
  • Plans and evaluates changes and additions to LAN; coordinates software requirements with network users; coordinates electrical connections with maintenance staff.
  • Determines needs, plans for, and coordinates the acquisition and installation of new hardware, software and supplies.
  • Attends and participates in Snohomish County Personal Computer Coordinator meetings to keep abreast of important concerns, activities and events.
  • Administers the initial and on-going registration of hardware and software to appropriate vendors and DoIT and coordinates data processing education requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field; PLUS, three (3) years experience in operating and programming microcomputers, database programming and analysis, local area network administration; OR, any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities. Must pass job related tests.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
A valid Washington State Driver's License is required for employment.
Candidates for employment must successfully pass a criminal background investigation, which includes fingerprinting.

Knowledge of:
  • assigned department computer applications and a variety of software packages, including word processing, spreadsheets and database
  • general capabilities of microcomputers, minicomputers, mainframe computers and their associated peripheral equipment
  • networking, file sharing, and file transfer capabilities between microcomputers, minicomputers and mainframe computers
  • network, hierarchical and related structures, database philosophy and structures
  • microcomputer operating systems (such as MS DOS) and corresponding directory and file configuration techniques

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The installation of desktop computer hardware is an essential function of the job, which, from time to time requires getting under and/or behind desks and workstations, sometimes in cramped workspaces, to fish, connect, and organize cables and cords. The position also occasionally requires the lifting and transporting of items weighing approximately forty (40) pounds.
SUPERVISION

The employee receives general direction from the department assigned Administrator. The work is performed with considerable independence and is reviewed through meetings, status reports and from results obtained.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The work is performed in the usual office environment. The various divisions and units of the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office are housed in 5 different buildings, both on and off the main county campus, from Paine Field to north Everett. At times, travel will be required to and from all locations.
