Network Design Engineer

Overview:
NETWORK DESIGN ENGINEER (RDTE)

Bowhead is seeking a Network Design Engineer in Dahlgren, VA. The Network Design Engineer is responsible for maintaining multiple computing environments by identifying network requirements; installing upgrades; monitoring network performance, and managing network configuration consistency.
Responsibilities:
  • Perform site visits for data collection and evaluation of telecommunications systems and components required to complete each job
  • Identify and develop a Scope of Work (SOW) that describes work details, reports and milestone. This should include measuring progress and provide a high-level view of each job expectations from start to finish.
  • Provide management to the Install Team as it relates to each design
  • Provide monthly input to management with status updates on job progression along with any problems or delays
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant codes, standards, and best practices, including ANSI/TIA/EIA, BICSI, and NEC
  • Update a cloud-based platform (ServiceNow) daily with design notes
  • Develop Bill of Materials (BOMs) using our current Information Management Warehouse (IMW) database
  • Develop telecommunications rack drawings that identifies the layout and placement of telecommunications equipment within a dedicated rack, detailing the position of each device such as switches, patch panels, and their cabling connections. This essentially is a blueprint for organizing hardware within the telecommunications cabinet.
  • Perform Quality Assurance (QA) site checks to determine if all job-related tasks were followed and meets all standards for structured cabling
  • Provide documentation to the Infrastructure Team that identifies cable pathways to the closest communications room, point of contact for each job, conduit or sleeve locations (if required), along with a drop detail identifying how each drop should be installed
  • Attend MILCOM meetings if required by the customer to determine Telecommunication requirements for any new construction projects
Qualifications:
  • Three to five (3-5) years of experience
  • Bachelors degree required.
  • Communicate with all members of the Design, Engineering and Installation (DE&I) Team to build strong relationships, fostering collaboration, and achieving common goals.
  • Utilize Microsoft Visio and AutoCAD to create Infrastructure layouts such as proposed drop locations
  • General understanding of how wireless communications are installed utilizing heatmaps provided by the customer
  • Assist with escorting contactors within our customers security containers when required
  • Monitor ServiceNow daily to assign new requests to the appropriate team member
  • Has a BICSI RCDD certification
  • Must have strong troubleshooting and critical thinking skills
  • Strong attention to detail, good documentation skills, ability to write clear, concise project reports
  • Ability to function with minimal instruction or supervision, or as a part of larger team reporting to formal project management
Physical Demands:
  • Must be able to lift up to 10-20 pounds
  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
  • Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically
SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to maintain a security clearance at the Top Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for this contract.
