Job Summary:
The Network Engineer Intern will support network optimization and compliance efforts by conducting site visits, creating network diagrams, and assisting with equipment installations and testing. They will work closely with vendors to obtain pricing and complete purchase requisitions based on design specifications. This role requires basic knowledge of networking principles, the ability to work independently, and a strong desire to learn new technologies. Pursuing a degree in a technical field is essential, with knowledge of programming and collaborative tools being a plus.

Responsibilities & Duties:
  • Conduct network optimization and compliance activities, including site visits to gather data and relevant information.
  • Create network diagrams using draw.io, such as floor plans, rack profiles, and system diagrams (SONET, RoADM).
  • Assist in the installation of network equipment, including racks, power, and various network devices.
  • Collaborate with vendors to obtain pricing and prepare purchase requisitions based on engineer specifications.
  • Perform network testing for TDM, SONET, IP, and Fiber systems and provide comprehensive test reports.
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
  • Pursuing an AS or BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Information, Networking, or a related technical discipline.
  • Basic understanding of Windows operating systems and Office 365 applications (Word, Excel).
  • General knowledge of networking principles, including internet protocol (IP) networking, Ethernet, Metro Ethernet, MPLS, and the OSI model (preferred but not required).
  • Ability to work independently on projects with minimal supervision and a strong willingness to learn new technologies.
  • Familiarity with programming languages (Python, C#) and collaborative tools like Atlassian (Jira, Confluence) is a plus.
An ideal candidate for this role is a motivated and independent learner with a foundational understanding of networking principles, a passion for technology, and the drive to take on hands-on projects in a fast-paced environment.
