Network Technician (Freelance / Self Employed)

Overview
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Network Technician to join our dynamic IT team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining and supporting our network infrastructure, ensuring high availability and security across all systems. This role requires a strong understanding of both local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN), as well as experience with various networking technologies and protocols. The Network Technician will play a crucial role in troubleshooting network issues, implementing solutions, and enhancing our overall network performance.

Duties

• Monitor and maintain network performance, ensuring optimal operation of LAN/WAN environments.
• Configure and manage Cisco routers, switches, firewalls (Cisco ASA), and other networking devices.
• Implement security measures including VPNs, firewalls, IDS/IPS systems, and encryption protocols.
• Conduct vulnerability assessments to identify potential security risks within the network infrastructure.
• Support data center operations including SAN management and high availability configurations.
• Collaborate with IT teams to integrate cloud security measures within AWS and Azure environments.
• Troubleshoot network connectivity issues using tools like SolarWinds, PRTG, or Splunk.
• Assist in the deployment of network installations and upgrades while adhering to best practices in network architecture.
• Document network configurations, changes, and procedures for future reference.
• Provide technical support for users regarding network access issues and remote access software.

Experience

• Proven experience in network engineering or support roles with a strong understanding of computer networking principles.
• Familiarity with routing protocols such as OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, as well as TCP/IP stack functionalities.
• Experience with various operating systems including Windows, Linux (Debian, CentOS, Ubuntu), macOS, Solaris, and BSD.
• Knowledge of scripting languages (Python, Bash) for automation tasks in system administration or DevOps environments.
• Understanding of network management tools (e.g., Ansible for configuration management) and monitoring solutions (e.g., VMware vSphere).
• Experience with telecommunication systems including VoIP technologies and QoS implementations is a plus.
