Position Summary:
WLCH is seeking an entry-level fully bilingual (English/Spanish) Public Radio News Reporter. The position is ideal for a recent graduate or early-career journalist who is passionate about public service journalism and community storytelling.
The reporter will support the station's news and public affairs programming by producing original content and assisting with daily new coverage serving communities in Lancaster and York County.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in researching, writing, and producing news stories focused on Lancaster and York Counties for radio and digital platforms.
- Attend and cover City Council meetings and School District board meetings, including preparing summaries, scripts, and audio reports for broadcast.
- Conduct interviews in English and Spanish, with guidance from senior staff.
- Write short news scripts, voice tracks, and feature segments in both languages.
- Translate and adapt news content between English and Spanish accurately and responsibly.
- Gather audio in the field and assist with basic editing for broadcast.
- Support coverage of local government, education, elections, health, and community issues.
- Participate in editorial meeting and contribute story ideas relevant to local civic engagement.
- Follow journalistic ethics, station policies, and FCC guidelines.
- Represent the station professionally at public meetings, press conferences, and community events.
Required Qualifications:
- Full bilingual fluency in English and Spanish (spoken and written) - REQUIRED
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, Communications, Media Studies, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Strong writing and communication skills in both languages.
- Interest in local journalism, public radio, and civic reporting.
- Willingness to learn audio production and on-air reporting skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines and accept constructive feedback.
- Basic computer and digital media skills
