Job Summary/Description:

Are you a visual storyteller who lives for the "wow" factor? Do you thrive on the adrenaline of a breaking story and the satisfaction of a deep-dive community piece? We’re looking for a Multimedia Journalist (MMJ) who doesn't just report the news but owns it across every screen.

Whether you’re crafting a lead for the 6 PM broadcast, going live on our streaming desk, or engaging with our audience on social, you’ll be the heartbeat of the Cape Fear region. If you’re a scrappy, digital-first journalist who wants to make a real impact in southeastern North Carolina, let’s talk.

Duties/Responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):

What You'll Do:

Own the story: Manage and develop compelling content from initial concept to final publication across digital, social, and broadcast platforms.
Drive digital engagement: Create platform-specific content that meets our audience where they are on their phones, their TVs, and everywhere in between.
Master the craft: Write, edit, and produce high-quality stories with speed, accuracy, and a killer creative eye.
Respond with urgency: Jump into breaking-news situations with authority and calm, keeping our community informed in real time.
Connect with the community: Build deep roots in the Cape Fear region, developing sources and uncovering the stories that truly matter to our neighbors.
Step into the spotlight: Take advantage of potential anchoring opportunities to lead our coverage and connect directly with viewers.

What You Bring:

A digital-first mindset: You understand that "news" happens 24/7, and you’re ready to feed the beast on social and streaming first.
Killer storytelling skills: You know how to find the "human" element in every story and make it resonate with an audience.
Technical chops: You’re a pro with a camera and an editing suite (and you’re not afraid to learn new tools as they emerge).
Sharp news judgment: You know what’s important, what’s interesting, and how to tell the difference under pressure.
A positive, "can-do" attitude: You’re a team player who lifts others and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Urgency and empathy: You care about the stories you tell and the people they affect, and you move fast to get them right.
Flexibility: News doesn't follow a 9-to-5 schedule, and neither do you; you’re ready to go where the story takes you.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field preferred
  • Strong writing skills (broadcast and print style)
  • Experience with CMS/digital publishing platforms
  • Experience with broadcast newsroom software such as ENPS
  • Experience with video editing software (preferably Edius)
  • Must be able to lift 25-30 lbs and pass a motor vehicle background check
