TITLE OF POSITION: Librarian
BARGAINING UNIT/SALARY RANGE: MEA Administrators Unit II Range $40,439.24-$52,764.01
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Librarian at Northern Maine Community College serves as a key academic resource for students, faculty, and staff by providing expert guidance in research methodologies, citation practices, and information literacy. This position supports student success and teaching excellence through one-on-one consultations, group instruction, and the development of workshops, tutorials, and resources that enhance research skills and academic performance. The Librarian designs and implements information literacy initiatives, promotes the effective use of library resources and Open Educational Resources (OER), and collaborates with faculty and academic departments to integrate these tools into curriculum and support diverse learning needs.
The Librarian also contributes to collection development and outreach efforts, supports circulation and interlibrary loan services, and supervises work-study students. This role collects and analyzes data on library usage and services to inform continuous improvement and prepares reports on the impact of library resources on student engagement and success. The position works closely with campus partners to promote library services, enhance the student learning experience, and support the overall mission of the Academic Resource Center.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s Degree in Library Science or Library and Information Science from an accredited program. 3 years of professional experience in a library setting.
Experience with Minerva preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Demonstrated knowledge of research methodologies, citation styles, and information literacy principles. Experience with library instruction and curriculum development. Proficiency in digital literacy tools and reference management software. Understanding of current trends in library services and educational technology. Demonstrated ability to support student learning through research assistance and information literacy instruction. Strong communication, teaching, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff. Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse academic environment and adapt to changing technologies. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and respond effectively to user needs.
