Non-Emergency Medical Transportation Driver

,Position Summary

The NEMT Driver is responsible for providing safe, reliable, and compassionate transportation services to clients traveling to medical appointments, dialysis, rehabilitation, and other approved healthcare destinations. Drivers serve a vital role in supporting access to care, particularly for Medicaid recipients, seniors, and individuals with disabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely transport clients to and from medical appointments in a timely manner
  • Provide door-to-door or hand-to-hand assistance as required by trip level
  • Assist passengers with mobility challenges, including wheelchairs, walkers, and stretchers (if applicable)
  • Properly secure all mobility devices using industry-standard tie-down systems
  • Maintain accurate trip logs, manifests, and billing documentation for Medicaid and private pay clients
  • Communicate with dispatch regarding trip status, delays, and client needs
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections daily
  • Maintain a clean, sanitized, and professional vehicle environment
  • Adhere to all North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and Medicaid transportation guidelines
  • Ensure confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations

North Carolina Compliance Requirements

  • Valid North Carolina Driver’s License
  • Clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)
  • Pass criminal background check (required for working with vulnerable populations)
  • Drug screening (pre-employment and random)
  • CPR & First Aid Certification (required or must obtain within 30 days)
  • Defensive Driving Certification (preferred or required by company policy)
  • Must meet all requirements set by the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT)
  • Must comply with Medicaid transportation broker standards, such as Modivcare (if contracted)

Vehicle & Equipment Responsibilities

  • Operate company-owned or approved vehicle (ambulatory or wheelchair accessible)
  • Safely use wheelchair lifts/ramps and securement systems
  • Perform routine vehicle checks (fuel, tires, lights, safety equipment)
  • Immediately report mechanical issues or incidents

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED (preferred)
  • Minimum age: 21 years old
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and assist passengers physically when necessary
  • Comfortable using GPS systems and mobile dispatch apps.

Pay: $13.00 - $15.00 per hour
