EMR is currently seeking an experienced Non-Ferrous Scrap Buyer who understands the market beyond the price sheet. This role is built for a professional buyer with deep non-ferrous expertise, sharp instincts, and the confidence to make fast, informed decisions that protect margins and secure supply. If you live and breathe aluminum spreads, understand copper arbitrage, and can evaluate grade quality at a glance, this opportunity is for you. This will be worked 100% in the office in Camden, NJ and will pay $140 – 160k/yr. Relocation may be provided.

The Non-Ferrous Buyer is responsible for sourcing and procuring aluminum, copper, brass, stainless, and specialty alloy scrap while actively managing margin exposure in a volatile commodities market. This position requires strong commercial acumen, disciplined risk management, and the ability to build and maintain long-term supplier relationships.

Travel: Minimal and local to include: supplier visits, regional industry events, and trade shows.

Key Responsibilities

Monitor daily price movements and market drivers across aluminum, copper, brass, stainless, and high-temp alloys

Interpret mill demand, export flows, freight shifts, and macro trends

Adjust buying strategies in real-time to protect and grow margins

Identify arbitrage and trading opportunities

Source material from industrial accounts, demolition contractors, peddlers, and other scrap yards

Negotiate pricing, payment terms, and delivery schedules

Evaluate material quality, grading accuracy, and recovery yields

Expand and strengthen the regional supplier base

Build strategic partnerships to secure consistent material flow

Conduct regular supplier visits to evaluate operations and quality standards

Position the company as a preferred outlet in the market

Mitigate exposure to commodity price volatility

Anticipate regulatory and supply chain risks

Protect gross margin contribution through disciplined buying

Qualifications

Minimum 5+ years purchasing non-ferrous metals in recycling, trading, or commodities

Proven working knowledge of aluminum, copper, brass, stainless, and specialty alloys

Strong understanding of grading, specifications, and recovery yields

Familiarity with freight and logistics cost structures

Decisive decision-maker in fast-moving markets

Advanced negotiation skills

Strong analytical ability — able to interpret pricing indexes and market signals

Commercial mindset with a margin-focused approach

High ethical standards and compliance awareness
