Job Summary
Responsible for providing expert nursing and coordination of care for pediatric patients within a specialty population and their families. This includes program development to better meet the comprehensive needs of this population.
Essential Functions
- - Understands and satisfies the needs of the neonatal, infant, toddler, pre-school, school-age, adolescent and/or adult patient in regard to their growth and development process.
- - Program Development: develops, implements, manages, markets and evaluates a program plan.
- - Nursing Process: synthesizes and evaluates the individualized patient/family responses along the continuum of care; makes changes in treatment within the scope of practice. Negotiates systems, plans and directs the implementation of change related to program plans and standards.
- - Case Management: uses case management as a strategy to assist in managing a population; collaborates with the multidisciplinary team in the establishment of goals and implementation of the plan of care; identifies priorities and realistic outcomes for intervention; identifies and communicates potential solutions to variances; implements identified solutions.
- - Organizational Responsibilities: takes a leadership role in designing and implementing activities which support the mission and strategic objectives of Children's Hospital of WI.
- - Teaching: identifies educational needs of patients and families and develops formal teaching plan content and presents educational programs and conferences; communicates content for informal teaching; acts as resource for patients/families, staff and community; incorporates concepts of families and social interactive theory to assess and resolve barriers to learning.
- - Consultation/Collaboration: provides expert advice, which incorporates the broader aspects of patients/families response to illness/injury; provides leadership in the assessment, development and implementation of policies and procedures which are directly and indirectly related to the area of specialization; participates in the quality improvement program as related to area of specialization; seeks opportunities for providing information/initiating consultation; advocates for children and families on public policy and in forums.
- - Professional Development: incorporates the needs and goals of the hospital and division of nursing; anticipates the needs of the community and works to develop systems to meet these; participates in professional improvement activities including professional organization membership.
- - Research: applies current research findings in own practice and introduces current research into clinical practice.
- - Administrative Responsibilities: assists with developing and analyzing program standards and needs; assumes coordination responsibility for the program.
