Performs general patient care such as, hygiene, mobility, nutrition, and increased/constant observation in a basic role with the guidance
and mentoring of the Registered Nurse.
Responsibilities:
Essential Functions
- Provides routine treatments and interventions consistent with the educational level and skills learned in the academic environment
and demonstrated competency through Orlando Health.
- Performs advanced skills after achievement of demonstrated competencies such as: nasogastric tube irrigation, suctioning, and
removal; wound irrigation; complex dressing change without packing of wounds; maintenance of enteral tube feeding (Dobhoff,
Nasogastric, and Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy)..
- Performs increase or continuous visual observation for Baker Act, behavioral health and suicide risk patients as assigned.
- Assists patients with hygiene, mobility, and nutritional needs.
- Maintains safety and security of patients, families, self, and other members of the healthcare team.
- Utilizes the Safe Patient Room Environment Checklist with change of staff or transfer of care as part of handoff for Baker Act,
behavioral health, and suicide risk patients.
- Assures patient privacy, rights, and confidentiality.
- Follows standard precautions. Adheres to Hand Hygiene and PPE procedures.
- Communicates appropriate information regarding the patient’s condition to the registered nurse (RN) and other members of the
healthcare team.
- Participates in handoff report and purposeful hourly rounding on patients.
- Documents information according to Orlando Health specific policies and guidelines.
- Transports and assists patientsthrough the admission and discharge process. Transports Baker Act, behavioral health and suicide risk
patients to diagnostic testing and procedures.
- Maintains a safe and clean environment.
- Provides exceptional service and or care to all patients, families, customers, and team members.
- Transports and delivers items, equipment, blood products and medications (excluding substances and IV chemotherapy drugs)
throughout the facility.
- Receives and processes incoming calls, patient calls and guest requests.
- May have limited access to areas storing medications.
- Provides exceptional service and or care to all patients, families, customers, and team members.
- Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state,
and local standards.
- Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
Education/Training
- Nursing student currently enrolled in a nursing program at a college or university.
- Successful completion of fundamentals nursing course.
- Proof of continued enrollment in a pre-licensure, professional nursing program with no break in enrollment to exceed one year.
Licensure/Certification
Maintains current BLS/Healthcare provider certification.
