Leading Clinical Excellence. Supporting Crisis Care. Strengthening Communities.

About Us

Baltimore Crisis Response, Inc. (BCRI) is a nationally recognized nonprofit and Baltimore’s only comprehensive behavioral health crisis response system. Since 1992, we have provided timely, community-based services for individuals experiencing mental health and substance use crises.

Our Community-Based Residential Crisis Services Program delivers responsive, person-centered care in partnership with community providers, first responders, and healthcare systems—meeting individuals where they are during their most vulnerable moments.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Nurse Manager to oversee nursing operations within our Community-Based Crisis Services Program. In this leadership role, you will guide clinical practice, supervise nursing staff, and ensure the delivery of high-quality, compassionate care to individuals experiencing mental health and/or substance use crises.

The Nurse Manager will collaborate closely with the Medical Director and Clinical Director of Residential & Outpatient Services, as well as community partners and internal crisis teams, to strengthen service delivery and promote best practices in crisis care.

This role is ideal for a clinically strong, mission-driven nurse leader who thrives in dynamic, fast-paced environments and is passionate about community-based crisis response.

What You’ll Do

Clinical & Program Leadership

  • Provide clinical oversight, guidance, and mentorship to nursing staff and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Ensure efficient daily operations of crisis services, including intake, assessment, care planning, stabilization, and discharge processes.
  • Deliver direct nursing care and clinical interventions during critical incidents as needed.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Develop and implement quality improvement initiatives to ensure adherence to clinical protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations related to patient care, confidentiality, and program operations.

Staff Supervision & Development

  • Lead, supervise, and support nursing staff to ensure adequate coverage, training, and professional development.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide coaching and feedback, and foster a positive, accountable team culture.

Collaboration & Community Engagement

  • Collaborate with Mobile Crisis Teams to assess, manage, and respond to behavioral health crises in a timely manner.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with community healthcare providers, mental health agencies, law enforcement, and other stakeholders.

Data, Reporting & Program Improvement

  • Collect, analyze, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to patient outcomes, program efficiency, and community impact.
  • Use data to inform program improvements, staffing needs, and resource allocation.

Emergency Preparedness

  • Ensure staff are trained and prepared to respond to medical emergencies, psychiatric crises, and trauma situations.
  • Participate in emergency response planning and continuous readiness efforts.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Maryland
  • Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience, including at least 2 years in a leadership role within mental health, crisis services, or emergency care
  • Strong clinical judgment and ability to make timely decisions in crisis situations

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or a related field
  • Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing Certification (PMH-BC) or Crisis Intervention certification
  • Experience in community-based crisis or behavioral health programs
