Job Description


Overview

A large, high-acuity acute care hospital in Plano, Texas is seeking an experienced Nurse Manager of Cardiac Stepdown to provide 24/7 clinical and operational leadership for a specialized cardiac progressive care unit.

This role is responsible for driving excellence in patient outcomes, staff engagement, regulatory compliance, and financial performance within a complex cardiovascular care environment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain 24/7 accountability for a cardiac stepdown/progressive care unit

  • Lead delivery of safe, high-quality, evidence-based nursing care aligned with cardiac and PCU standards

  • Develop and implement unit-based care delivery models focused on patient safety and quality outcomes

  • Manage staffing, scheduling, productivity, and staff performance

  • Lead recruitment, onboarding, development, and retention of nursing staff

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, infection prevention standards, and patient safety goals

  • Monitor and manage operating budgets; identify opportunities for cost control without compromising care

  • Utilize occurrence reporting and quality data to identify trends and implement performance improvement initiatives

  • Promote professional practice, community involvement, continuing education, and nursing research

  • Collaborate closely with physicians, clinical leaders, and interdisciplinary teams


Qualifications


Required:

  • Minimum 2 years of recent acute care cardiac leadership experience

  • Prior leadership experience within Magnet® or Pathways-designated facilities

  • BSN required

  • Active Texas RN license or compact RN license

  • BLS and ACLS certifications

  • National nursing specialty certification or commitment to obtain within 1 year of hire

Preferred:

  • MSN or Master’s degree in a related field

  • Progressive leadership experience in cardiac stepdown, PCU, or cardiovascular services


Additional Information


Scope of Responsibility

  • 37-bed Cardiac Stepdown Unit

  • Leadership of approximately 60 FTEs

  • Reports directly to the Director of Progressive Care (PCU)

  • No additional departments currently assigned
