Position Summary:
The Medical-Surgical Nurse is responsible for delivering safe, high-quality, and compassionate nursing care to adult patients with a wide range of medical and surgical conditions. The nurse provides comprehensive care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing interventions, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Patient Care
- Provide direct bedside nursing care to patients in the medical-surgical unit.
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments and document findings accurately.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, following institutional protocols.
- Monitor, evaluate, and record patient responses to interventions.
- Assist in pre-operative and post-operative care, ensuring proper recovery and patient safety.
- Maintain infection control standards and ensure a clean, safe environment.
2. Communication & Collaboration
- Collaborate with physicians, allied health professionals, and other nurses to ensure continuity of care.
- Communicate effectively with patients and families, providing education about diagnosis, treatment, and discharge plans.
- Participate in handover reports, multidisciplinary rounds, and team meetings.
3. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).
- Report any significant changes in patient condition to the physician or charge nurse immediately.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, nursing standards, and regulatory requirements.
4. Clinical Competence & Safety
- Demonstrate proficiency in clinical procedures such as IV therapy, wound care, catheterization, and NG tube insertion.
- Identify and respond to emergencies promptly (e.g., code blue situations).
- Ensure safe use of medical equipment and report any malfunctions.
5. Professional Development
- Participate in continuous education and skills training programs.
- Support and mentor junior nursing staff and students as assigned.
Adhere to ethical nursing practice and uphold patient confidentiality.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent.
- License: Registered Nurse with a valid license ; eligible for local registration.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in a medical-surgical unit or acute care setting.
- Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – preferred.
