Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provides continuous comprehensive medical and nursing care, including preventive and supportive health care services to patients and families.
  • Consistent with the established nursing practice, differentiates between normal and abnormal findings in the screening process to detect changes in health status that require physician’s intervention.
  • Consults with physicians and other health care practitioners in the evaluation of health screening findings to make prospective decisions about treatment that will best support improved outcomes and patient satisfaction.
  • Formulates differential diagnosis and the plan of care based on medical history, physical exams, nursing assessment and other pertinent information. Identifies health and medical risks and needs.
  • Orders, conducts, and interprets diagnostic and laboratory tests. Identifies and may prescribe appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions and therapies.
  • Provides education, guidance, and direction to nursing staff and other members of the health care team to ensure quality and safe medical and nursing care is provided.
  • Provides education and counseling to patients and families regarding health status, treatment and progress, medication management, disease prevention and health promotion, records and maintains a system of relevant documentation.
  • Perform pre-employment physicals, and annual health screenings to determine if employees can safely perform job tasks.
  • Participates in infection prevention/control and ordering of immunizations
  • Evaluates and orders pre- and post-exposure prophylaxis
  • Participates in health surveillance for job-related illnesses and injuries
  • Evaluates employees for fitness to return to duty
  • Participates in fit testing for particulate respirators
  • Stabilizes exacerbation of chronic conditions that present during work
  • Stabilizes urgent illnesses or injuries that present during work
  • Performs screening and counseling for wellness-related conditions.
  • Promptly informs safety officer and/or Infection Control of suspected or existing occupational and/or health concerns
  • Maintains timely and accurate health records in the OHS EHR
  • Consistent with the established nursing practice, differentiates between normal and abnormal findings in the screening process to detect changes in health status that require physician’s intervention.
  • Consults with physicians and other health care practitioners in the evaluation of health screening findings to make prospective decisions about treatment that will best support improved outcomes and patient satisfaction.
  • Formulates differential diagnosis and the plan of care based on medical history, physical exams, nursing assessment and other pertinent information. Identifies health and medical risks and needs.
  • Manages a schedule allowing for both scheduled and non-emergent unscheduled visits; maintains a work schedule that ensures availability and continuity of care; ensures optimal availability and utilization of appropriate resources.
  • Provides education, guidance, and direction to nursing staff and other members of the health care team to ensure quality and safe medical and nursing care is provided.
  • Provides education and counseling to employees regarding health status, treatment and progress, medication management, disease prevention and health promotion, records and maintains a system of relevant documentation.
  • Performs other related duties, as directed.

Minimum Qualifications


1. A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse issued by the New York State Department of Education (NYSED); and
2. Current certificate as a Nurse Practitioner issued by the NYSED; and
3. Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA).

Additional Salary Compensation


In addition to base compensation, you may also receive the following based on the Collectively-Bargained Agreement:

An annual education differential if you currently possess an appropriate degree in nursing or an allied health discipline from an accredited college or university, as listed below:

  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Bachelors in allied health discipline = $900
  • Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Masters in allied health discipline = $1,200
  • Doctorate in Education, Nursing Practice or PhD in Nursing (DNP) = $2,500

An annual certification differential of $1,878 if you currently hold an appropriate certification that is nationally recognized in the discipline or area of specialization for which you are employed.

An annual nursing experience differential ranging from $1,097 up to $9,100 for up to 10 years of experience if you have outside nursing experience as a Nurse Practitioner.
