Nurse Practitioner (New Graduate) – Family Medicine with Structured Mentorship

Job Summary

Montecristo Medical PC is a physician-led, family-owned primary care practice serving the San Fernando Valley since 2009. We're hiring a new graduate Nurse Practitioner and we mean it — we're looking for someone at the start of their NP career who wants structured mentorship and the room to grow into a full-scope family medicine provider.

We know the transition from student to practicing NP is hard, especially when many first jobs expect you to hit the ground running with minimal support. That's not how we do things. You'll have a real mentor in Dr. Anita Gonzalez, a structured 6-month onboarding plan, a graduated patient panel that builds as your confidence builds, and colleagues who remember what it was like to be new.

Schedule

  • Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • No weekends, no call, no after-hours messaging expectations

What your first 6 months look like

  • Months 1: Shadowing Dr. Gonzalez, seeing a small shared panel, daily debriefs on cases, protected learning time
  • Months 2–4: Gradually building your own panel (8–12 patients/day), with Dr. Gonzalez available throughout the day for questions and case reviews
  • Months 5–6: Ramping to a full panel (14–18 patients/day) at your own pace, with weekly case-review check-ins
  • Ongoing after month 6: Full-scope practice with continued access to Dr. Gonzalez for complex cases, and structured quarterly check-ins to support your growth

We don't expect new grads to know everything on day one. We do expect you to ask questions, to own your learning, and to grow into a confident, independent provider over your first year.

Who you'd be learning from

Dr. Anita Gonzalez is our founding physician and would be your direct mentor. She's a family medicine provider with pediatric training who has practiced across Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, and Los Angeles over a long career. She's bilingual (English/Spanish), genuinely available throughout the clinic day for consultation, and deeply committed to patient continuity — the kind of doctor who still makes time to answer a new provider's questions without making them feel small for asking. Her pediatric background is especially valuable if you're seeing a full-lifespan panel for the first time.

Practice environment

  • Dedicated MA assigned to you, with cross-coverage from other MAs when your primary is out
  • Admin support for prior authorizations and patient forms (IHSS, DMV, disability) — our operations team prepares these so you review and sign, so you can focus on patient care and learning rather than paperwork
  • Small, stable support staff who know the practice inside and out
  • No corporate bureaucracy — direct relationships with the physician owner and operations lead

Duties (growing over time as you ramp)

  • Perform physical exams and medical evaluations under the mentorship structure above
  • Diagnose and manage acute and chronic conditions
  • Provide full-lifespan care (pediatrics through geriatrics) with increasing autonomy
  • Order and interpret labs and diagnostic studies
  • Provide preventive care and patient education
  • Collaborate closely with Dr. Anita Gonzalez and clinical staff
  • Maintain accurate documentation in Tebra/Kareo
  • Grow into full scope of practice under your California NP license over your first year

Our new office (moving later this year)

We're relocating to a newly built medical office in a quieter, safer part of the Valley. The new space features ample patient and staff parking, on-site private security, new construction throughout, significantly more space than our current office, and a cleaner clinical environment. We'll share the exact address once the lease is finalized.

Requirements

  • Active California NP license (FNP or equivalent), or license pending with expected completion in the next 60 days
  • National certification (AANP or ANCC), or actively pursuing
  • DEA registration, or ability to obtain
  • Graduate or expected graduate of an accredited NP program
  • Comfortable with the idea of seeing patients across the lifespan (we'll help you grow into the confidence)
  • Willingness to learn, ask questions, and engage in structured mentorship

Preferred

  • Spanish-speaking (a significant portion of our patient panel is bilingual)
  • RN experience prior to NP school
  • Any clinical rotations or practicum experience in family medicine, pediatrics, or community health

Compensation & Benefits

  • $125,000 – $140,000 annually (depending on certifications and prior RN experience)
  • Monthly health insurance stipend (company-sponsored group plan in development for 2026)
  • 80 hours paid vacation
  • 40 hours paid sick leave
  • 8 paid holidays
  • Malpractice insurance — fully covered
  • UpToDate subscription
  • Paid California NP license renewal
  • CME allowance

Why this role

If you're a new grad, you've probably heard from classmates about jobs that promised mentorship and delivered being left alone in an exam room on week two. That's not what we're offering. We're a small, family-owned practice that has been around since 2009, we've watched providers grow from their first year into confident clinicians, and we'd like to help you do the same. You'll know everyone here by name. You'll have a mentor who actually mentors. And you'll leave your first year able to practice with the kind of confidence that only comes from real support during the transition.
