Nurse Practitioner - OBGYN

JOB SUMMARY

The OB/GYN Nurse Practitioner at Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark, NJ provides comprehensive healthcare services to women across the lifespan, with a focus on reproductive and gynecologic health. This role includes conducting exams, diagnosing and treating conditions, providing prenatal and postpartum care, and educating patients on preventive health and wellness. 12 hours a week

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform comprehensive gynecologic and obstetric assessments, including annual exams and prenatal visits
  • Diagnose and treat acute and chronic conditions related to women’s health
  • Provide prenatal, postpartum, and family planning care
  • Conduct routine screenings (Pap smears, breast exams, STI testing)
  • Prescribe medications and develop treatment plans in accordance with state regulations
  • Collaborate with OB/GYN physicians and interdisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality patient care
  • Educate patients on reproductive health, contraception options, and disease prevention
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR) system
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and patient care programs
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s or Doctorate degree in Nursing (MSN or DNP)
  • Current Nurse Practitioner license in the state of practice
  • Certification as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP-BC) or Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-BC) with OB/GYN experience
  • DEA certification (if applicable)
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in women’s health or OB/GYN preferred

  • Upholds HIPAA and PREA regulations
  • Punctual and dependable for assigned/confirmed shifts
  • Maintains security clearance for the assigned facility
